I worked at FDM Group for more than a year

    Pros

Established relationships with big companies 14 week training programme (for java devs) Structured learning environment with others of similar skill levels Teachers were good/helpful Travel costs to training centre reimbursed

    Cons

Training cost of £20,000 used as a means to coerce you into taking opportunities, as if you don't your contract is terminated and you are expected to pay that fee up front instead of over a 2 year period. Pay during 2 year placement period (especially in London) is poor. £21,000 for year 1 and roughly £27,000 for year 2. Once you're on client site you're left on your own largely, I was only contacted around contract...

    Advice to Management

Drop the coercion tactics or charge an amount closer to the real value of training provided. Pay a livable wage (in London at least, can't comment for outside London).

I worked at FDM Group for more than a year

    Pros

You might have chance to work in the top investment bank as their tiny supporter.

    Cons

    1. In contract, you are not their employee, you are FDM's product for sell to their clients 2. In contract, you can't say no to their arrangement, if they want to send you to somewhere you don't want to go. 3. In contract, you have to stay with FDM for 2 years if you are got a chance to work with a clients. The salary is £22,000 p.a. for the first year and £24,000 for the second year. In the meantime, if you leave FDM,...

I have been working at FDM Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good training. Friendly trainers (well most of them) Prestigious clients. They get your foot in the door which is great for graduates.

    Cons

The salary is low compared to average graduates in first and second year(21k and 25k), however if you have been struggling to find a job then you wont be too fussy. Relocation - you must be available to be placed anywhere in UK(including Scotland and NI). Also only a weeks paid accomodation when moving to a different city? It needs to be much longer than that. The jobs available after training really depend on what...

    Advice to Management

Give more benefits to consultants who have stayed on longer than 2 years(e.g. not having to relocate), reward us for our loyalty. Could possibly look into providing services to clients in addition to consultants.

I have been working at FDM Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - They will get you a job. - You could be in a role overseas. - Training from the ground up.

    Cons

    - Sales managers do not give a monkeys about what you want. - Huge training costs that you must pay if you break their sketchy contract. They are taking advantage of naive graduates, who are desperate to get a job after University. - The role you are trained for may not match the role you will be placed in on site. - Unpaid training, you are expected to fund yourself for a undefined amount of time. - When you apply...

I have been working at FDM Group full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Brilliant training and experience. Clients are usually well known companies and most will hire you on once your initial contract is over. The training provided is very beneficial, especially if you've never worked in that field before.

    Cons

Starting salary is below average for a graduate job, Plus, once out working with the clients you feel very out of the loop of what is going on. If you are unfortunate enough to not get placed quickly, but your training is finished, there isn't anything helpful that you can do and you just end up being bored waiting for a placement. When one does come, a lot of the time it will be in an area that you're not interested...

    Advice to Management

Find something for people to do when they are waiting to be placed. Better communication between trainees and account managers, even once they've been placed. And better starting salary would be beneficial.
