Pros

there are no pros to the IT department in this company

Cons

40 hour week(extra month work a year), no payed sick leave no pension no health care no bonus no extra for heading to England for a week, no flexi time no overtime no respect no structure manager has no respect for team held over a barrel for at least 6 months threatening to loose job on a daily basis. Spend your time fixing half cooked projects that are outsourced to India. this is likely to be a support job as any decent projects are sent to India

Pros

Going home on a Friday & being told you don’t have to work an unpaid weekend shift.

Cons

Worked for this company for over a year and can honestly say I’ve never met as many narrow minded people in all my life. Firstly, projects are under-resourced. Relying heavily on uni placement students to do most of the ground work on the sites - they ultimately make mistakes but still get a full on verbal assault from management. You go to the head office and walk by one of the ‘Directors’? Don’t waste your breath or time smiling or saying hello, they won’t acknowledge you. Are you a Female in a Construction/Engineering profession? Stay well clear, you’ll be an assistant to your Male colleagues for eternity. Completely outdated IT department and ran by dinosaurs, so any bright young IT graduates are told to like it or lump it. In this ‘Family run business’ you will be looked down upon by members of this ‘Family’. The sons and daughter colleagues you work with aren’t your friends. They’re already on more £ than you and will be managing you after a few years. In the office environment, if you’re not working in silence, you’re not working at all. Want a pay rise? Lol Some of this might sound petty, but my current company has opened my eyes to what a family run business can and should be. FP McCann is a world away from that.

Pros

The developers in the software team are friendly. There is the feeling that we are in this together.

Cons

Fear driven development, IT management constantly makes you feel like your job is on the line. There is a real blame culture. Not from other developers but from management and other parts of the business. Everyone living in fear of their job so they try to knowledge hoard in fear that their job will no longer be needed. Constant changing of priorities. No project structure or processes, just on demand development. They claim to pay well but this is masked behind making you work an extra 45 minutes a day which equates to nearly an extra month a year. As mentioned before by someone else there are zero benefits beyond minimum legal requirements. Developers are not encouraged to bring forward any ideas or process suggestions that may actually help improve productivity. All ideas are shot down by IT management who have zero experience in software development. Not a place for a developer who wants to have any sort of a career in software development. Zero work life balance
