I have been working at Financial Ombudsman Service full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Great benefits, flexible working, state of the art building, good location

    Cons

Most important fact is they don't treat colleagues equally even if they talk about equality, diversity. The biggest impediment created by the senior management is they closed an extremely successful and stable department ( general casework) and set up a new department ( they call it a new way of working) which is now a big failure. Yet they don't want to admit their mistake and are getting rid of old staffs. Their decision...

    Advice to Management

This new way of working is an utter failure, bring back the old system. Treat adjudicators and junior staffs with respect and care, PPI supported you the most financially so respect their contribution. You are what you are today because of the wonderful staffs, retain them instead of pushing them to leave their job. Cross train existing staff instead of hiring more people. You already have the man power you require to...

I have been working at Financial Ombudsman Service full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The best thing about working at fos is the team mates, and being able to help our customers.

    Cons

The worst thing is management who dont really do much and make it more difficult to do our job. Micro managing doesn't work with so many experienced staff who have more knowledge then the managers.

    Advice to Management

Let the staff get on with there jobs and avoid pointless meetings and trying yo micro manage just to look busy.

I worked at Financial Ombudsman Service for more than a year

    Pros

10-4 flexi time Location in Coventry is relatively easy to get to

    Cons

The list is endless but for me the main cons were, lack of training, lack of communication, micro management and the constant threat of having your contract terminated if you got up to five red marked cases within a 13 week period (case load within that period is approx 10 per week). The way contractors were treated was appalling and the team managers seemed to relish the opportunity of walking someone out across the...

    Advice to Management

People management is key in any business and you are failing at this in Coventry. Reassess your team managers and look at your grading system. Having no trust in your staff and micromanaging them is why the ones you haven’t terminated are all leaving or are desperate to leave.

I have been working at Financial Ombudsman Service for less than a year

    Pros

    Flexible hours Tea coffee facilities

    Cons

Micro-Management and tenacious practice. Breeding ground for unhealthy work ethics for a contractor - ie workload and competitiveness No confidentiality and minimal communication Discontent between perm and contract staff. Targets you are not told about until you start. Staff turnover Poor company structure and vision

    Advice to Management

Go get advice on how to get the best from contractors.

I have been working at Financial Ombudsman Service for less than a year

    Pros

Work hours flexibility, pay is alright though not as good as first seems.

    Cons

Rude, arrogant and promiscuous management who will support you if you flirt and sell yourself to them. If you are thinking about this job, the contractor one advertised, consider carefully, you will earn well but there is no training, Reed will pretend there is training but there isn’t. Quality assurance team is too small and more concerned with their appearance and actually use bullying and intimidation to cover up...

I have been working at Financial Ombudsman Service full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Unfortunately there is nothing positive about working here. If you want your health and well being to suffer, please feel free to join. Also, the management are completely untrustworthy. Couple of years ago they forced us into mass claims with a promise that you would go on the same terms and conditions, i.e. flexible working hours, working from home etc. But now they tell us if you want to continue working here you will...

    Cons

I have been working at Financial Ombudsman Service full-time (More than 10 years) It was interesting to read from the 'staff survey update' that the executives recognise that a change of culture is needed. They say "It’s clear to me that we need to support our leaders and managers to create the right culture here. We’ve been talking to colleagues about what they think good leadership looks like, and based on feedback...

    Advice to Management

It is encouraging to read that the senior managers understand that a culture change is required. But trying down the same route will only result with a fresh nutter. Actions speak louder than words. Also, whilst the senior managers say they understand a culture change is required, are they actually fostering a culture change or merely providing a lip service - as noted earlier in my review employyes were forced into mass...

    Pros

The wage of being a contractor for £200 a day

    Cons

Where do I START?? Nobody has a clue what they are doing there, they have a bunch of trainers from London who think they are the bees knees , and think they are untouchable.. they provide 2 week training which they think is good enough, and yet there is so much to cover! Your constantly stressed out trying to pass cases, and there is not enough support at all, in order to ask a question you need to submit a template...

Management, need to wake up, and come up with a strategy, or at-least a better support system for the staff and guidance.
