I have been working at Financial Ombudsman Service full-time for more than a year

    Pros

there are various great benefits, fantastic offices and a great team spirit to get work done. brilliant support networks. you can be yourself at work

    Cons

there are some people here who just need to move on! if it is that bad you have a choice to leave. no-one is holding you in handcuffs and you are just dragging things down. get used to change as it is everywhere and its just life. you cant hold on to the past and why don't you help the changes instead of hiding in the background being vindictive. please leave and give someone else the chance of a job as you clearly...

    Advice to Management

stay on track and bring in the tweaks needed to make the investigation model work. help those to leave so we can employ people who want to help. these people are just bullies who hide behind anonymity

I have been working at Financial Ombudsman Service full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The café is good, and the more junior team (assistants, advisors, coordiantors) are in general pretty decent skilled people

    Cons

Stakeholder team [ my area ], is a dreadful place to work. Anyone with skills either leaves, gets side-lined or becomes burnt out. There are a few stars up to and including the manager level, but they never get the praise they deserve. There are also a few pieces of work there tho too: you know who you are . Senior managers are overpaid, incompetent gasbags - saying the right thing but never taking responsibility. £100k...

    Advice to Management

Clean house - sack everyone above manager level including directors. Loose about 50% of the managers too. Plenty are just lazily phoning it in. Promote your talent before it leave - which it keeps doing.

I have been working at Financial Ombudsman Service

    Pros

The job is interesting and rewarding. The people are on the whole lovely.

    Cons

I've tried so hard since the new way of working came in to encourage everyone and be positive but now I'm totally fed up. The pressure is becoming incredible. If you are hitting target then your work must be low quality or you're missing phone shifts, because trust me there's no way you can hit target whilst doing everything perfectly. Contractors have had their wages increased while we're not even being offered overtime....

    Advice to Management

Admit that it's tough for everyone. Bring back CCD and get rid of phone shifts so that we can concentrate on investigations. Bring in realistic targets and bring back ombudsman who can write decisions. Offer overtime.

I worked at Financial Ombudsman Service full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

People, facilities, gym, cafe, that's it...

    Cons

Too many to mention - mainly the ceo, exec team and senior management are the problem. The way this organisation has regressed since caroline wayman took over is alarming. Who would decide to implement a restructure when the organisation was managing cases very efficiently already?! The queues and standards get worse each month, some THREE YEARS after the restructure started. Until the contingency fund is spent though...

    Advice to Management

Leave before you spend the whole contingency fund on your flawed vanity project.

I have been working at Financial Ombudsman Service full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Benefits, people, offices and social groups and recommend a friend

      Cons

I would not recommend this organisation to a friend. Average income for the investigator role. Check your contract - the salary may be reviewed down or up depending on performance. 8-8 contract. You could be asked to work from 8am or up to 8pm. Or on a Saturday. This isn't an issue for everyone. Job isn't stimulating or challenging. Not much opportunity in the 'new model' to develop your skill set. Would be better...

I have been working at Financial Ombudsman Service full-time for more than 8 years

      Pros

Great colleagues to work with and good benefits

      Cons

Lack of consistency in management applying rules or HR guidelines mean staff treatment can be fair or entirely unfair and appalling. Very poor communication of process changes which affect your day to day job.

      Advice to Management

Value the very difficult job adjudicators and investigators do at the 'coal face'. Support them and remunerate them appropriately. Think carefully about bonuses (and salaries) for any non-targeted staff - are they really justified at the same level?
