I have been working at Financial Ombudsman Service full-time for more than a year

    Pros

there are various great benefits, fantastic offices and a great team spirit to get work done. brilliant support networks. you can be yourself at work

    Cons

there are some people here who just need to move on! if it is that bad you have a choice to leave. no-one is holding you in handcuffs and you are just dragging things down. get used to change as it is everywhere and its just life. you cant hold on to the past and why don't you help the changes instead of hiding in the background being vindictive. please leave and give someone else the chance of a job as you clearly...

    Advice to Management

stay on track and bring in the tweaks needed to make the investigation model work. help those to leave so we can employ people who want to help. these people are just bullies who hide behind anonymity

"Time for the Phoenix to combust...."

    Current Employee - Ombudsman Manager

I have been working at Financial Ombudsman Service full-time

    Pros

There are a huge amount of positive things about working at FOS. I've chosen to stay for the culture; the people; the variety of work; the job satisfaction; the challenges; the work/life balance, and so on. But my review today is with the sole purpose of highlighting one huge con.

    Cons

Phoenix. Phoenix, the new operating system that has been years in the making, is simply ruining any enjoyment anyone (who works live cases) had for their job. It was delayed repeatedly because it wasn't fit for purpose. And I just don't think it's fit for purpose now. Taking aside those that have been tasked with Phoenix propaganda, you'd be hard pushed to find someone who thinks their working life has been improved...

    Advice to Management

Just in case it wasn't clear from what I've said above, bring back Clipper. It wasn't perfect but we all found our own ways to use it. Don't take my word for it.. put it to a vote.

I have been working at Financial Ombudsman Service full-time

    Pros

    Benefits package Challenging work Location

    Cons

Investigator pay scale should be considerably higher and closer to the ombudsman manager pay considering the volume of work expected Flexible working can be better especially working from home. Demanding that parents must have childcare in place before working from home defeats the whole point of requesting to work remotely. Other organizations allow staff to work from home as it helps with the extortionate costs....

    Pros

The pay was really good for the work

    Cons

Management act as if they are in a hierarchy. If you're a junior a senior will just bring you down and make you feel bad.

I worked at Financial Ombudsman Service full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The people and some senior managers are really nice , flexible working hours

    Cons

Staff can’t cope with Phoenix, bad pay, little recognition for hard work, and the opportunities for homeworking are one rule for one and another rule for someone else . Some staff members can work from home 2/3 times a week and others have never once worked from home there whole time working at fos and this is very frustrating to work amongst seeing people be treated differently to others . There is favouritism and there...

    Advice to Management

Be more fair and treat all staff the same and do not favourite people. Higher pay rises at the annual pay review. be considerate of those who travel long distances to get into work give them homeworking opportunities too before they burn out like everyone else

I have been working at Financial Ombudsman Service full-time

    Pros

The place serves a very important role. We just need to get back to doing that in the right way.

    Cons

Now the Chairman has left, we might actually start to see the Exec team becoming accountable for some of the blunders they’ve created, and continue to push as through. It’s a shame that CW and the ex-chairman were good friends. It calls into question the “critical friend” role of the chairman - especially bearing in mind the Glassdoor reviews and appalling service standards that are just not improving. Was he...
