Pros

Good ICs/core group of employees. Also, their office, the Optimizley building, is pretty nice.

Cons

The office means nothing when the rotten company culture (coming straight from the top) is all talk and no action. Public callouts and an excessive focus on trivialities are the most prominent characteristics of Finix's management style. Directors are rarely available because they're taking advantage of the special privileges afforded to them. Meanwhile, ICs are constantly thrown under the bus as their "leaders" hide in meetings and WFH - Dunning-Kruger in action, live. PS: ICs are demanded to come in 4 days a week. Incompetent and quick to blame others, the CEO and upper management have created a hostile work environment characterized by constant scapegoating and arbitrary decision-making. Behind closed doors, teams are forced to collaborate in secret to compensate for their leaders' shortcomings. Only consider employment if you're desperate - and even then, proceed with caution if you value your sanity and professional development.

Pros

- fun place to work if you are a part of the original squad. Otherwise, you will be ostracized.

Cons

- Hire to fire model (they wait until you are about to hit vesting cliff) - CEO's mood changes with the weather and the phases of the moon - If you aren't a part of the original <20 team, you opinion doesn't matter - No managers, just micromanagers - Management (CEO included) has done excellent job at destroying any chance that this company had at creating and scaling a strong culture - They will never be able to attract and retain top talent if they keep letting go of new A players who challenge the original squad - No large reputable VC firm will touch Finix with a 10ft pole after how poorly things were handled with Sequoia. (You'll notice they need to glue together smaller investors now) - DOWN ROUND. The can keep extending investments into existing rounds and claiming it's an extension. Need I say more? - Highly political: if you are not a part of CEO's circle, expect to be fired before any of your equity vests

Product potential clouded by unhealthy culture

Pros

The product really is better built than many competitors and customers are generally happy. It’s a good opportunity for newbies to get their feet wet and do things they’ve never done before/gain experience quickly.

Cons

Most of the team is very inexperienced so projects are badly scoped and often heading in multiple directions. Middle/senior managers brought in often leave quickly because the pay is too low for them to put up with the chaos and decisions are not made based on data or experience, but instead based on what management feels like doing. The CEO keeps a trusted circle of advisors close by, but the rotation of people in and out of that circle is constant. Mental health is generally suffering because of the very bad work life balance and is just written off as a victim of startup life. There are plenty of startups out there that have much healthier cultures.
