Pros

First Union has a great training program and provides plenty of individual hands on training for the right people. I started off as a funding specialist and have now been moved up to an underwriter. First Union promotes from within every time they can and I have seen many of colleagues incomes grow as a result. The atmosphere is super fun, laid back and we aren't micro-managed. As long as we produce we are given the opportunity to move at our own pace. The pay is great and the bonus structure is amazing. There are times when out of nowhere at the end of the month I receive a bonus check that is amazing. The culture is great, we play golf and games and even cornhole which we play for cash prizes and everyone is very friendly.

Cons

Sometimes it's hard to tear yourself away from all the fun we are having to get back to work. I live far away and getting home at night in traffic can take longer than getting here does. When we get busy, we get really busy and the clients are non stop so while it is great for my pocket, we do have our drill down and work hard times.

Pros

When I accepted a position as a Junior funding specialist at First Union Lending I came in with a ton of sales experience but I had never worked in finance. During my interview with David he explained that First Union is in the business of helping people with their dreams. I could make money and help people and those were the principals that drive the owners and employees. While I was nervous about going into a new arena everyone at First Union has been so helpful and attentive the nervousness didn’t last long. The training with David was so thorough and complete that I felt ready to go on the first afternoon of my first day…..and he let me! I made a few mistakes but he and everyone around me showed they were there to help and I really felt like they had my back. I’ve learned so much about sales and sales techniques in my time here. Sales psychology that I never had considered in past jobs. I’ve become an expert in the different loans and programs First Union offers ranging from short term, mid term and long term loans, Lines of Credit, SBA loans, credit card processing, equipment financing, bridge loans, debt consolidation, expansion loans, invoice factoring, Healthcare Provider loans, commercial real estate loans, interest only loans, the difference between unsecured and collateralized loans…so many amazing products! I’m continuing to grow personally and professionally. The culture of patience, respect and courtesy that has been created is really a huge departure from other places I’ve worked. I’ve watched the underwriters coach people and help them understand their loans before signing contracts. They have even refused to move forward with loans if it would hurt the customer’s company. Who does that? At First Union, we do that! I make great money, have great benefits, great training and complete support here at First Union. Best Job Ever!

Cons

1099 but working towards W2 - but still benefits and PTO
