Pros

4K does an excellent job of helping members feel connected, even though the entire company is fully remote. The CEO down to individual contributors are highly engaged in slack banter and camaraderie, and this can make a HUGE difference in overall morale of a fully remote team. As someone that has spent the majority of my career fully remote, I know this is not an easy thing to cultivate, and the 4K team is definitely doing something right in this department.

Cons

When I first joined the team, it felt as though the main criteria for success in your role as a project team member was focused on delivering high quality results to clients. As time marched forward the success criteria seemed to shift to be more focused on how many billable hours each individual was bringing into the company regardless of the quality of the deliverable. This shift impacted job satisfaction, stress levels and overall morale in a negative way.

Pros

Working remotely, tech stipend, unlimited PTO and great benefits, yearly company retreat, friendly colleagues and a very chill workplace in general.

Cons

If you're not part of the team directly contributing to cash flow, you're on your own. I was told when I joined 'no one comes to Four Kitchens to get rich' and that's true, but in addition to that, you also don't get much mentoring or guidance from management who is inexperienced in people management.

Pros

- Everyone is incredibly smart and experienced. - Everyone is nice and friendly. - Project management is very structured and organized. - The company prioritizes company culture. - The company values professional development time every week, outside of billable time. - I feel this company is the best of the best in the web development industry. In other words, I feel like I have died and gone to "web developer heaven".

Cons

This is really not a con, but I would have preferred to have been put under a Senior Programmer for a bit longer before leading a large project right away. With that said I have learned a lot in a month. Looking at it now, I do think maybe having more time in learning the company processes would have made the transition a little less stressful at first. This probably depends on the kind of companies you have worked for in the past.
