Exciting industry. Not an exciting company.

    Pros

Free parking. If you don't want to work in a city or town, then it's a good location. Free work cruises and discount holiday cruises.

    Cons

Old fashioned culture. This might be fine for a lot of people but if you are looking for an exciting culture that nurtures growth and creativity then this is not it. It's like working in a library. This is the experience within the office. The ships are much better.

    Great regional employer

    Pros

Family owned, with friendly colleagues. Interesting business offering engaging roles. Good learning and development courses offered and excellent staff benefits.

    Cons

Staff retention is high, which is great; however the flip-side of this means vacancies are infrequent and internal recruitment is limited.

    Photo job

    Pros

A lot of free time in ports and at sea. Ability to go on excursions. Nice cabins on the Black Watch, regular crew cabins on other ships.

    Cons

Commission based salary with not great opportunity for increase because ships have a lot of repeaters and very high average age of the passengers (usually 70+) so most of the guest don't take photos and even less of them buys it. Also requirement from concessionaire Ocean Images to film for the cruise dvd, not just doing photography job. Because of this conditions it's very hard to earn more than 600 pounds per month (base salary is around 515 pounds)

The "friendly" ship, working with a fantastic team in some fantastic locations.

    Pros

Each day brings a new joy, whether it is visiting a new and exciting destination that you have never visited before, to meeting a different guest on board who shares their story with you. The atmosphere is friendly and the whole crew pull together to create this. They become like your second family.

    Cons

You are unable to get away from work as you live on board, so if you are having a bad day you still have to put on a brave face in front of the guests. Long working hours and dealing with customer complaints.
