I worked at French Connection part-time for less than a year

    Pros

As with many retail shops there was a staff discount offered. It was probably the only redeemable aspect to working there.

    Cons

    - Although the management claims that the team is like a "family" it was a pretty hostile environment to be in. If it were a family, I would have considered myself an intruder in that team; unwelcome. - Bad and an overbearing management that asks too much for what they pay you. - Minimum wage. The hourly pay was £6.70p/h (actually £6.69p/h) which I thought was a bit low for a 22 yr old. You're better off working for their competitors who offers a better pay and perks and don't forget a better self-satisfaction for your job. But, this opinion was very dependent on the management style of the store. - Unrealistic targets given compared to the footfall. It's unfair to be given £1500 target for the day when there's only 10 customers on average that comes to the shop per hour; 20 on a good day. And, out of that 20 visitors, only 5 would purchase an item. - The sale targets breeds hostile competition instead of team cooperation but management would insist that it's better for team work. - Overall, average franchise; bad management.

    I worked at French Connection

    Pros

Good designs, easy to sell the dresses and basics as well as coats. Staff discount of 70% for up to about £500 worth of merchandise per season, as well as uniform allowance based on hours (not quite enough to cover your full uniform, as they require sales staff to wear statement pieces not basics: no jeans, no jumpers.) Management usually very professional and supportive, and their employee training program is improving.

    Cons

Huge problem with staff retention- people leave all the time. In summer, injuries were occurring more frequently than necessary, at least three frightening ones occurred in July at Regent Street, and all were swept under the rug. Regent Street Air Conditioning systems broken, needs full refurbishment. Temperatures regularly reached over 40 degrees C in summer, inside the store, as a result. Store needs to be cleaned better as well, since no ventilation. Especially dusty and unhealthy in back of house, notably the stockrooms. Scheduling a mess, shambles of a system and management at fault. Despite efforts to improve, change came too late for me, as an employee.

I worked at French Connection full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The people were lovely - my department was very sociable and I had a great team! Staff discount and lots of Head Office sample sales was also a bonus.

    Cons

Stephen Marks does not know his staff. The head of the department was replaced behind her back. The entire retail finance team left in the space of 2 weeks due to poor management and the department I was in had a very high turnover due to not looking after staff. No recognition, no incentives, annual payrises or bonuses.

    I worked at French Connection

    Pros

My colleagues were friendly and helpful, my manager was supportive and encouraging of staff development. The work environment was pleasant, and i enjoyed being around lovely clothes every day. The employee benefits (staff discounts) were a real plus.

    Cons

Customers can be rude, shift patterns didnt make it easy to plan activities outside of work, as there was not much notice.
