I worked at GAME Digital full-time

    Pros

Getting to sell products I am knowledgable about.

    Cons

Little to no reward or recognition for performance. A very toxic environment from head office down. I’ve never worked for a company that does it’s best to cut as many corners as possible to shave every last bit of profit possible with no regards for staff’s mental or physical health. The role is ultimately a selling role however little to no training is given in this respect, instead you are to sit down with very dreary videos repeating sales methods you can find on Google. In-store is way too hectic to ever try to implement training as there’s always something going wrong needing addressed. Systems older than any staff member in the store that regularly and catastrophically fail, leaving you incapable of doing even the most basic of tasks some days The company’s customer support is pretty much non-existent so very, very regularly you will deal with issues that need to be escalated above store level for them to do nothing or simply not respond. A company clearly always desperate for staff as they seem to have an amazingly high staff turnover which I should have taken as a clear warning. When expecting to be paid for the hours you work, if you find yourself to be underpaid, by any margin, don’t expect HR to want to help. They simply just pass the buck and clean their hands of anyone work requiring done.

I have been working at GAME Digital part-time

    Pros

The company is very much about improving their own staff, there is a lot of support available both on an improvement of CS front and also on a personal front (issues or just general stuff). Rotas are very flexible and the teams that I have personally worked with have been awesome and sound!

    Cons

The recent slash in the staff discount is a bit rough, 20% was good but after merging with Frasers group and having this dropped to 10% (even for GAME staff) it is a bit unfair in my opinion, with the amount we do for the company. The bonuses that we do get are paid in rewards points rather than in physical cash, meaning we are forced to use this in the store again... The workloads that are also asked of us staff are also sometimes too much, especially with the amount of staff that we are allowed as well, it is a lot of playing catch up to make sure that we don't end up weeks behind in tasks. The marketing team can also do with a rework as a lot of the time the marketing content that they send down either doesn't fit the bays properly or better yet, just doesn't look appealing (this has come from staff and customers who have mentioned it in store)

I worked at GAME Digital part-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - If you're into games, then it's a great environment to work in. - Laid back, informal atmosphere. - Good managers who encourage and help you with anything you're struggling with. - Discounts on games and console.

    Cons

    - Low pay, minimum wage. - You're expected to quite aggressively push royalty schemes and upsell. - Discounts vary on product type; sometimes unable to use it depending on the product (e.g. if it's on sale) - Stores (at least the one I worked at) weren't very clean or tidy and had limited space: the kitchen, manager office and one of the stockrooms were all clumped together in one room.
