    Pros

Great people to work with. Friendly and chilled management compared to supermarkets etc. They give you space to do the job rather than pestering you all the time. Satisfying helping people if you like the outdoors.
    Staff discount is great.

    Cons

When its quiet it can be very boring.
    Minimum wage
    No bonus incentives

I worked at GO Outdoors part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great in store staff discount and wide variety of staff discount available at various other stores
Colleagues were very friendly and lovely
Opportunities for career progression into supervisor roles or managerial roles or specialist roles for certain departments
Able to come back during holidays if a university student
Constant opportunity to learn while on the job, gain further knowledge

    Cons

Pay was terrible for the amount of hours you'd work
Hours were inconsistent - rarely stuck to your availability
During warmer months we weren't allowed to drink water on the shop floor had to go to the staff room
Badly advertised discount card scheme which meant a lot of unhappy customers
Managers put a lot of pressure of staff, rarely made recognition of the hard work they put in

    Advice to Management

Appreciate staff more, take more recognition for the hard work they put in like a staff reward scheme
    Increase pay

I worked at GO Outdoors part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Excellent staff discount for all levels and given staff discount card in a few days of starting. No waiting period of months until you’re allowed the staff discount which some other companies practice.

    Great working environment.

The people you work with are mostly friendly and very helpful. You get the feel of a family run business. I think this is because a number of people are related or close friends. I also believe it’s encouraged for employees to share job opportunities to their friends and families. They might do this so the company gets a close knit team working in the store. Only a handful of employees aren’t related or not friends before working in store.

    Cons

A lot of different jobs to do for minimum wage. Not only do till operators work on the till and tidy around the till area they also manage online orders. They make sure any orders coming through are sorted out on the computer. They contact the departments for the items and sort out the paperwork. Plus answer the phones.

Short training period, about a week. A ‘buddy’ shadows you.

    Advice to Management

    N/A

I worked at GO Outdoors part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good price on stock. Nice people, fairly solid bussiness. Good on a part time basis.

    Cons

Extremely low paid for work level and commitment required.

    Advice to Management

Be less militant and more flexible. For some this is a means to an end not the end

I worked at GO Outdoors part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Extremely busy during spring and summer

    Cons

They forgot to pay me for my first month on time as they lost my bank details, when they finally paid I saw that they didn’t include the first week of my work and paid me for 3 weeks only, as they forgot to count those 5 days on the 1st week, took me 2 or 3 weeks to get them to pay me the correct amount by reminding them every day. Not a pleasant place to work as I personally had abusive and humiliating behaviour towards me from some of my colleagues and managers, they are not fair. I felt such a relief when I left that Gooutdoors Bristol Store and never shop there as they have low quality products for a high price and we had plenty of complaints from our customers who were upset and disappointed which made me not happy working there.

    Advice to Management

Be more adequate, fair, better organised, value staff
