I have been working at GO Outdoors full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great people, relaxed and friendly culture and work environment.

    Cons

It could be so much more than it is....too much talk an little drive to follow through. A culture of pace and drive could make this company so much more that it is and that would make it one of the best places to work out there. Departments have huge differences in their culture, progression, support and financial reward they give to teams regardless of contribution or workload.

    Advice to Management

Be better through creating clear plans, role model great focus and accountability, enthuse your teams and learn from other in the business who do it best.

I worked at GO Outdoors part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great staff allow for a calm working day
    Great Discount
    Decent(ish hours)

    Cons

The hours were planned 4 weeks in advance but you could only see 2 weeks in advance at a time making it frustrating to plan holidays in advance
Management are clueless for example during the hot summer we lost customers and instead of having AC installed all of the staff were issued water-bottles and told to hydrate in temperatures that were regularly over 30 degrees plus
A lot of pressure put on staff on closing even when their isn't enough staff
Once your placed on a department their is not much moving room
If you use it as a summer job like i did they will not give you much of an excuse to come back

    Advice to Management

    Stop under-staffing during peak season.
Offer longer shifts with more days off in contrast to having lots of small shifts
Sort out staff discount and do not stop staff from purchasing items that are deemed to cheap this should be something sorted before the item is sent to store.
When a store says they don't have an item they don't have it and stop tranfer's completely!!!

I worked at GO Outdoors part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Amazing staff discount!!!! Great team, flexible hours, shift swapping allowed, interesting products, opportunity to specialise in the department that suits you best.

    Cons

Management can be demanding, sometimes too much pressure on staff, understaffed and often asked to cover departments you have no knowledge in, need a lot of specialised knowledge on products

    Advice to Management

Listen to the staff and give more realistic deadlines, tasks take time especially when understaffed and busy!!

I have been working at GO Outdoors part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people to work with. Friendly and chilled management compared to supermarkets etc. They give you space to do the job rather than pestering you all the time. Satisfying helping people if you like the outdoors.
    Staff discount is great.

    Cons

When its quiet it can be very boring.
    Minimum wage
    No bonus incentives

    Negative Outlook

I worked at GO Outdoors part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great in store staff discount and wide variety of staff discount available at various other stores
Colleagues were very friendly and lovely
Opportunities for career progression into supervisor roles or managerial roles or specialist roles for certain departments
Able to come back during holidays if a university student
Constant opportunity to learn while on the job, gain further knowledge

    Cons

Pay was terrible for the amount of hours you'd work
Hours were inconsistent - rarely stuck to your availability
During warmer months we weren't allowed to drink water on the shop floor had to go to the staff room
Badly advertised discount card scheme which meant a lot of unhappy customers
Managers put a lot of pressure of staff, rarely made recognition of the hard work they put in

    Advice to Management

Appreciate staff more, take more recognition for the hard work they put in like a staff reward scheme
    Increase pay
