I worked at Gagen MacDonald full-time

    Pros

    - Office and Location - Clients

    Cons

I had the sense that the company prioritized revenue before the employees, so salary and raises were very low. There were no development programs or opportunities to pick up new skills as you are either expected to understand everything or get kicked out. Lacking in D&I immensely. There were many awkward instances with the topic of diversity. There is no clear structure or management and, as such, you are expected to figure things on your own, despite many objectives within each department being very unclear, and there is no opportunity for growth. Management or higher-ups are not skilled at being a manager. The turn-over rate is very high. I echo previous comments here, Gagen was a very unusual place to work at. People keep their heads down and work independently - not a collaborative environment - working in isolation There is no transparency or open-communication

I worked at Gagen MacDonald full-time

    Pros

Interesting work you don't find elsewhere A good working environment for women Genuinely nice people Opportunities to work for really large companies (clients)

    Cons

Management of the business is opaque - hard to know what's going on Sink-or-swim approach to professional growth - figure it out on your own, or go somewhere else to learn Overwhelming emphasis on billable hours makes it hard to enjoy the work, which is actually quite interesting

I worked at Gagen MacDonald full-time for more than a year

Great opportunity to learn from many thought leaders in the management consulting space. Managers provide a lot of freedom in how you do your work. The leaders are super savvy and do a good job of growing the organization,

    Cons

Like most consulting companies, hours can be long and its hard to find work-life balance.

I worked at Gagen MacDonald full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Strong group of talented, kind, fun, dedicated people Maril's passion and the firm's successful history Big name brands as clients The office location and energy

    Cons

Onboarding (didn't exist when I joined) Compensation is lower than industry standard Work life balance is rough with with constant pressure to bill, leading to regular early morning, nights and weekend work (however, this is part of being a consultant) Lack of structure and processes Lack of transparency and internal communication Knowledge management (lack of knowledge sharing can be crippling; an area they're actively working on, but in my two years, there was little progress made) Favoritism, cliques Turnover is alarmingly high

I have been working at Gagen MacDonald full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Gagen is a super special place to work. You can tell that throughout the thorough interview process, through the onboarding process and every day working there. People treat each other really well, with kindness and love, and Maril has done a phenomenal job sharing her vision for the organization. They’re pretty flexible and accommodating. Not to mention, how cool is it to work for a woman-owned business that’s still led by it’s founder?!

    Cons

The vacation time is a little light compared to other industries, however they do a lot to make up for it in their flexibility.
