I worked at General Dynamics Land Systems full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good Benefits Interesting Work Excellent People Great Location

    Cons

Morale at an all time low Management have ego issues! Promote ineffective staff that just kissed the managers feet. Senior managers really don't know what they're doing (to the point they cause chaos and blame it on the sucker that's kissing their feet) No internal succession if manager/snr manager wants to keep you without promoting Salary poor in comparison to similar roles in similar companies Sending staff home... in tears Managers/Snr Manager lie and compartmentalize everything to make sure the whole truth never comes out Anger management issues with some staff and HR don't do anything about it

    Advice to Management

Look at the amount of good people that have left. Snr Managers need to give their staff respect. You work with intelligent people allow them to speak, as a Snr Mgr you don't have to know every detail of everyones role, this is why you have SME's! Use them. There were some really good people due for a promotion and could have made a genuine difference as a whole. Doesn't matter what department, EIISS/production/PMO... or Supply Chain they all have a revolving door policy and that you are totally replaceable, the whole please gets by because the staff there care and are good but if you don't treat them with respect and fight to keep them you'll lose and you'll struggle more and more. Why work for a company that doesn't want to strive for the best? Listen to your own Mgmt training courses, you train and improve people they will return the favour to the customer and keep everything ticking over smoothly. I had been asked if I would return I originally said yes but since hearing the happenings since leaving I'd be less inclined to go back to Merthyr and or Oakdale until the senior managers get their act together and fix it!

I have been working at General Dynamics Land Systems

    Pros

The pay is really good, but that’s all for pros.

    Cons

Centralised control leaves little room for real decision making. Slow moving. Poor process discipline: everything in each department is a fire fight when it doesn’t need to be be.

I worked at General Dynamics Land Systems full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    > Good benefits > Good work offices > Great people to work alongside, interesting and diverse set of individuals > Project is fascinating

    Cons

    > Management don't listen and play games with peoples careers > It's all fixed, don't be surprised to see an unqualified inexperienced individual get a job they can't do because they bend over backwards to say yes to the "boss" even when yes can't be done in reality. > Nepotism is rampant throughout the whole establishment > Everyone has an angle it would be naïve to say otherwise but most people... would want the best outcome for themselves and a bonus if it keep good staff but having worked in varying areas within the company, the management most definitely don't care about retaining good staff, hence why turnover is so high and onboarding so low I assume. > HR don't pay attention to complaints, not even when there is proof of wrongdoing, rule breaking and not just poor people getting managers roles.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your people, treat them with dignity and respect and you'll get the best out of them. Almost everyone I've worked with just want a bit of credit for their efforts instead of blame for when it didn't work out. Stop promoting the people that rely on others to do their work and just make bad managers feel important because they are willing to kiss their feet and say how amazing their ideas are instead of... investigating and challenging them or the company. Listen when the people that have to implement the plans say it can't work like that, they aren't shying away from the work they are saying, that is not how the system works, let them show their capabilities and knowledge and you actually might have less catastrophes. Give people the opportunities promised to them by the company, stop the empty agreements and messing with someone's career. The company is good but the worst managers get listened to the most. Supply Chain, Production and Sustainment. LISTEN TO THE GDs COMPANY ETHOS INSTEAD OF PREACHING IT AT PEOPLE WHO VALUE IT AND PORTRAY IT

I have been working at General Dynamics Land Systems full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good company to work for. Understanding and helpful. Give training to employees. They are good employers, look after staff. Job is rewarding.

    Cons

Very hard work you come home tired most days. HGV type work. Management could do with showing a bit more helpfulness when confronted with technical problems.

    Advice to Management

Don't listen to team leaders they can be biased.
