I worked at George Weston Bakeries

    Pros

You are exposed to an environment where food is manufactured, learning the intricate chemistry behind food engineering. The exposure to a manufacturing environment can also benefit any engineering student.

    Cons

The hours can be long as assignments are given, there is minimal opportunity to learn other parts of the business during the internship.

I worked at George Weston Bakeries

    Pros

Fast paced business with many knowledgeable employees. Close relationship with Loblaws allows for significant career growth opportunity if you are interested in the retail business. I was luck enough to work for the 2 best VPs they had, but neither are there any longer. I worked in Canada which was a smaller operations and built some very strong bonds with co-workers. Very long run of financial success. The Canadian CEO is a good man.

    Cons

Sales and Operations, out of necessity, run all the initiatives and have the most "power". Lack of leadership and communication with employees. Strategy is 1 year out at most. It is difficult to move forward when you don't know where you are going. There are many employees that are legacies and just show up for their paycheck and there is little stomach to move them out. Senior management marginalizes people outside their circle.
