I worked at Gilead Sciences full-time

    Pros

R&D is pretty cool. Lifesaving medications being developed. Because they don't typically invent it, they buy it, but nonetheless they are saving lives. Has the potential to be a cool company.

    Cons

Decision making process is awful. Supervisors need significant training to manage people. There is a do it right the first time or be fired on the spot mentality which does not foster growth or trust. It is a very backstabbing, passive aggressive culture. People are not direct. The M&A process is not transparent even to the people who help make it happen. Diversity and inclusion is on paper only and is not practiced in the company. Everyone is scared of everyone.

    Advice to Management

Better train your people managers to manage people. Create an actual training program that is mandatory. Help people better adjust to the culture.

I have been working at Gilead Sciences full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Gilead is definitively best in class biotech for the quality of the Research and TAs. Very high level staff in every dpt
Extremely IT driven with fast working pace
    Attractive Comp&Ben

    Cons

The system is spoiled by very low level HR people - among the worst I faced in my career
They are not able to identify abusers, and treat them as such.
A strong improvement is needed here

I worked at Gilead Sciences full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Gilead offers a good compensation package, including salary, bonuses, stock and ESOP.

    Cons

Gilead strives to get the most out of its employees, and not by way of professional development. While it prides itself on "being lean by design" it boils down to being a sweat shop geared for burn out in approximately 2-3 years, which is about the average length of stay for most employees. While the compensation may be enticing, in the long run it is not worth it.

Gilead is also a very male-driven company, far behind the times when it comes to truly creating a even playing field for women.

    Advice to Management

Partner with forward-thinking companies when it comes to ensuring equality in the work place and taking care of your primary stakeholders (employees). This will require a very radical cultural shift that can only be navigated with the full buy-in and unrelenting cultural change management. You have a long way to go.

I have been working at Gilead Sciences full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I can honestly say there are other big Pharma s out there that great employees better than Gilead. Maybe when the stock was good but now it’s stuck in the $70’s for over 2 years, people came and stayed. I can’t imagine people wanting to stay for the stock now.

    Cons

Management are full of micro managers, constantly shuffled from divisions to other divisions without experience or contacts. Hiring from outside would be better but Gilead protects its own. Way overrated and salespeople are arrogant as hell. Presidents club is based on history of territory and nothing to do with success of Rep. I can’t say anyone in my division is happy, just too lazy to get out. When managers can get away with unethical behavior because they’re protected based on who the know, it brings morale down. I knew it was bad but couldn’t imagine it to be this bad 😡

    Advice to Management

Stop playing politics! Hire best people for job even from outside and stop with the cronyism, Invest in good people coming in from outside instead of always pushing the same internal rah rahs who know how to play the game
