I have been working at Gilead Sciences full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I can honestly say there are other big Pharma s out there that great employees better than Gilead. Maybe when the stock was good but now it’s stuck in the $70’s for over 2 years, people came and stayed. I can’t imagine people wanting to stay for the stock now.

    Cons

Management are full of micro managers, constantly shuffled from divisions to other divisions without experience or contacts. Hiring from outside would be better but Gilead protects its own. Way overrated and salespeople are arrogant as hell. Presidents club is based on history of territory and nothing to do with success of Rep. I can’t say anyone in my division is happy, just too lazy to get out. When managers can get away with unethical behavior because they’re protected based on who the know, it brings morale down. I knew it was bad but couldn’t imagine it to be this bad 😡

    Advice to Management

Stop playing politics! Hire best people for job even from outside and stop with the cronyism, Invest in good people coming in from outside instead of always pushing the same internal rah rahs who know how to play the game

    Pros

If you are experienced, enjoy uncertainty and want to write the rules, this is the place you will enjoy and be able to make a difference

    Cons

Working in this type of bio Pharma company, you have to be really flexible and adaptable, don’t expect sops and rules

    Advice to Management

I have been working at Gilead Sciences full-time

    Pros

Good benefits and base salary is pretty good.

    Cons

Process oriented culture, incompetent first-line and mid-level management, bonus not big enough in comparison to corporate achievements or the rest of biotech industry. Gilead is really just a Big Pharma company.

    Advice to Management

Live the culture and core values that Gilead advertises. The reality of the company is almost completely opposite.

I worked at Gilead Sciences full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great Liver Disease and HIV divisions. They truly own those markets with the best in class for helping people with difficult diseases. CF and CV are the tough divisions to work for. Little support with Managed Care and less support with resources. Great Employee Stock Program

    Cons

The average tenure for sales people is 3 years. They treat their dogs better than their sales people. Very little room for advancement. Human Resources is a joke at handling management and rep issues.

    Advice to Management

Start asking yourself why do I talented, successful people keep leaving the organization.

    Pros

There is great earning potential and a very strong pipeline of products. Their employee stock purchasing program is very strong as well.

    Cons

Its a lean company so depending on your sales division, sales people could feel over leveraged at times. However

    Advice to Management

Smaller territories would be a plus.

I have been working at Gilead Sciences full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great scientific leadership team has made some excellent product and market decisions.
Amazing upper management team. Average commercial team but straining under the growth and the "lean" mentality.

    Cons

Wary of experienced employees, hates unsolicited feedback, gives managers free reign to push employees to the breaking point. Very little loyalty to sales team. Weak culture full of people trying to garner attention. Political "who you know" environment. High turnover.

    Advice to Management

Listen more to your people-ask your most successful people why they are successful instead of assuming you or one of your many worthless POA's are the reason.
