I worked at Glasgow Caledonian University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent working environment and people. Flexible working and ok work life balance.

    Cons

Such a disorganised university it is embarrassing. No career advancement and there is a lack of personal development or training. Lots of people who have been there for years and who do very, very little and get away with it. Senior managers do not demonstrate the values the university promotes and unless you are in the 'inner circle' there is no real care for staff at all.

If you are career minded and ambitious I would not recommend working here.

    Advice to Management

Live your values. Get rid of the fear culture and listen to your employees. Invest in sorting out the shambles properly internally rather than spending money on your 'external' image.

I worked at Glasgow Caledonian University full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Worked with some great colleagues, projects and campuses (the legal ones). The ARC.

    Cons

The Principal and certain management decisions following years of apathy towards my commercial remit.

    Advice to Management

Avoid if you like fair play.

I have been working at Glasgow Caledonian University full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Decent terms and conditions. Good pension and working week. Flexi-time and good holiday entitlement. Salary decent compared to private sector.

    Cons

Terrible career advancement in non academic posts. Lack of investment in departments. Executive board on inflated salaries, so unlikely to ever leave. High turnover of senior managers who are any good.

    Advice to Management

Invest in proper career advancement. Allow staff to partake in qualifications offered to students at no cost. Stop paying lip service to core values.

I have been working at Glasgow Caledonian University full-time

    Pros

Good library, good facilities, central location and most staff are extremely helpful.

    Cons

Some of the lecturers aren't helpful at all.

    Advice to Management

Review lecturers where the class has provided negative feedback.

I have been working at Glasgow Caledonian University part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I feel the biggest pro has been the encouragement I have received for my own personal growth. I have always been encouraged to be very "hands-on," within my role as a student mentor and act on my initiative. As such, this has at times involved public speaking, which before my role as a student mentor I would have been truly awful at doing but with the support of my team I feel this is now second nature to me. Furthermore, within my first year of work for GCU, I was chosen to represent the campus at GCU London. This was a great experience for me not only as a mentor but also as a student. I feel within every particular work task I have been involved with, my skills have been challenged and strengthened.

    Cons

I can honestly say I have never had a bad experience from this company.

    Advice to Management

Continue to support employees and perhaps have more graduate opportunities to work within GCU.

I have been working at Glasgow Caledonian University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Guidance always available for research and supervisor always available. No communication gap between supervisor and researchers. Really great place to research and be part of. Excellent user friendly University.

    Cons

None, just need to focus on ranking on various table which does not reflect the real strength of the university.

    Advice to Management

    Keep it up
