I have been working at Grant Thornton UK LLP part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The firm is large enough to have great facilities (e.g. really nice, recently refurbished London offices) and resources (e.g. training centre at Bradenham) and attract really good people to it, but still maintains a friendly and informal feeling. Being a shared enterprise means that everyone in the firm has a part to play in making decisions, and gets to share in the rewards - which makes me more motivated to work hard. The current CEO, Sacha, is a really inspirational leader to work with. Working hours are flexible, and lots of people work from home or other sites.

    Cons

The whole performance management/appraisal/pay process is not as transparent as it should be, which can be frustrating at year end time. Some of the systems used at the firm are outdated, and not fit for purpose (e.g. timesheet/billing system) which takes time/energy away from the day job.

    Pros

Firm’s purpose is timely in current environment with negative attitudes towards business - to shape a vibrant economy through building trust and integrity in markets
    Flexible working
Trust to complete your own work
    Positive supportive culture

    Cons

Unstructured and good talent not accelerated through development
    Mediocrity accepted and not resolved
No investment in systems or new products

    Advice to Management

More structured career development to retain your best talent

I have been working at Grant Thornton UK LLP part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I can honestly say that Grant Thornton is the best company I have ever worked for, and is the reason I have been here for so long! My opinion is listened to, I get involved in exciting work and there are opportunities across the firm to take advantage of. Team this with agile working and it means that I can have a healthy work life balance, giving my best to the business but also to my family.

    Cons

Business is growing and therefore different parts of the business/service lines to understand and so clarity is key.

    Advice to Management

Keep communicating with the business and sharing those success stories.

I have been working at Grant Thornton UK LLP part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The best thing about GT is the fantastic friendly and driven people. I love working in the recently refurbished offices in the city, and visits to the residential training centre in the countryside. I joined because the firm advocates a learning and coaching culture, and they haven't failed me on that. I have grown so much here. They were also very open to my ideas when I requested reduced hours and flexible working. I feel trusted, challenged and supported, and would recommend working here to others.

    Cons

The culture can vary across the firm - some teams can feel very different to others, and do things in different ways. Its not always clear what the firms vision is or how we are helping the firm work towards it.
Opportunities for recognition, promotion and reward are limited for non-fee earning staff.

    Advice to Management

Use the expertise and experience of our people on the ground to drive through changes to our culture. More should be done to unite the firm and break down silos.
