Is it just Grant Thornton or are other firms experiencing massive turnovers? I see articles about The Great Resignation happening this year but the rate we're losing people at GT is nuts.

      Toxic culture

      Pros

Wfh, flexible working hours and little overtime

      Cons

Bullying culture. My team and manager were the most toxic, cliquey people I had the displeasure to work with. Emails and general communication was passive aggressive and they were also extremely rude and disrespectful in person. I have been gaslighted, ganged up on during calls and accused of doings things I never did. I have also been pressured to do things for other workers. Management favoured certain people in the team and there was obvious favouritism. They will not like you if you don’t fit their clique and make it known they don’t like you and have a problem with you.

      Nice, friendly, supportive environment

      Pros

You're encouraged to be yourself, and work to your strengths. Inclusivity is a major part of the culture. Partners are very open to criticism and feedback and although there is a hierarchy the same as other professional services firms, it feels very flat. Everyone, including new joiners, are encouraged to join meetings and voice their opinions on projects they'd like to work on etc. The hours aren't bad, it's been busy since covid, but still mostly 9-6, and a lot less stressful than being at the big four (from personal experience). The difference in pay is not enough to make me want to go back to the culture/hours at a big four firm.

      Cons

Possibly a bit too focused on the positivity culture. It's rare that anyone gets called up on or criticised for poor work or poor work ethic.

      Great firm to work for

      Pros

There is a great culture within the firm, with a good work/life balance. There is also a strong focus on inclusion and diversity which shines through and everyone seems to understand and believe the values of the firm. It's clear you can build a long and rewarding career here, so many people have been here for years and the firm has a real focus on training and developing staff.

      Cons

So far, I haven't experienced any downsides.

Depends which part of the firm you join

      Pros

Genuine focus on flexible working Range of projects on offer Welcoming of new ideas

      Cons

Heavily dependent on where you work in the firm. Some departments have HORRENDOUS leadership - bullying, lip service paid to D&I, blocking talent development. Other departments are great - depends on the individual They tolerate appalling behaviour from individuals if they seem to be winning work - though often those people aren't really winning profitable work anyway! Too often the gloss wins out over the substance
