    Pros

Fantastic culture, supportive colleagues, agile working, lots of autonomy and responsibility.

    Cons

London and the regions very different businesses so vision and strategy doesn't always feel like it works for both

    Advice to Management

Leadership talent is rare and we have some great ones. Make sure the people leading teams and business areas are leaders first and work winners second.

    Pros

I enjoyed working for GT for the most part. Good people including most management. Good benefits and good atmosphere at the start

    Cons

Pay was really bad. And because of this, a high turn around. Also the new assistant manager tried to run place like call centre and people weren't treated like adults.

    Advice to Management

Pay more cause people work super hard and really deserve more

    Pros

Straight into real work after a 1/2 day introduction to what you'll be expected to do, good location in the Royal Liver building, coworkers are very welcoming and inclusive towards interns and included in all social events whilst completing the internship.

    Cons

Completed work isn't properly reviewed for a week or 2 after joining and is returned to you if incorrect so can lead to a backlog of returned work.

    Advice to Management

Spend more time at the start of the internship training and reviewing work to clear up any errors.

I have been working at Grant Thornton UK LLP part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The firm is large enough to have great facilities (e.g. really nice, recently refurbished London offices) and resources (e.g. training centre at Bradenham) and attract really good people to it, but still maintains a friendly and informal feeling. Being a shared enterprise means that everyone in the firm has a part to play in making decisions, and gets to share in the rewards - which makes me more motivated to work hard. The current CEO, Sacha, is a really inspirational leader to work with. Working hours are flexible, and lots of people work from home or other sites.

    Cons

The whole performance management/appraisal/pay process is not as transparent as it should be, which can be frustrating at year end time. Some of the systems used at the firm are outdated, and not fit for purpose (e.g. timesheet/billing system) which takes time/energy away from the day job.

    Pros

Firm’s purpose is timely in current environment with negative attitudes towards business - to shape a vibrant economy through building trust and integrity in markets
    Flexible working
Trust to complete your own work
    Positive supportive culture

    Cons

Unstructured and good talent not accelerated through development
    Mediocrity accepted and not resolved
No investment in systems or new products

    Advice to Management

More structured career development to retain your best talent

I worked at Grant Thornton UK LLP full-time

    Pros

If you're from audit and wanted to escape the busyness and long hours of work it requires and wanted to have a work life balance, Special Projects Team can help you achieve that. If you are bored doing the same thing, Special Projects can offer you with varied types of work. If you wanted to get involved in business development and pitching clients, Special Projects can give you that.

    Cons

Having said that Special Projects does different types of work, I can say that the team doesn't have any specialisation at all. They just do whatever tax, audit, corporate finance can't do. The cons is, employees in Special Projects are pressured to learn on what the work requires. They also outsource their employees to different places in the country. They do things that client's finance team can't do or don't wanna do. Some work are just random stuffs and very admin that even non accountant can do. Since they don't have any specialisation, the managers in special projects are just concerned of getting jobs and pitching clients. When they got the work, they don't even know how to do it and just on to to Executives and Staff.

    Advice to Management

Make an effort to be specific on the service offerings that Special Projects Team offers to their clients and colleagues. They shouldn't be getting work primarily because they have available staff. The managers should know the skills set of each member of the team so they would know if the work can be done or not.
