I have been working at Grant Thornton UK LLP full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

+ Excellent training and development, both internally and at Kaplan
+ Great work environment with a positive and engaging team
+ Involvement in interesting advisory projects
+ TOIL available for additional hours worked

    Cons

    - During exam periods work-life balance is awful, but this is expected for ACA students regardless of firm
    - Feedback sometimes needs to be actively sought, rather than being given straight away after engagements

    Advice to Management

Introduce reverse mentoring to allow younger members of staff to engage more with senior management.

I have been working at Grant Thornton UK LLP as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - It's a cliché but I think the culture is genuinely a positive, it is an inclusive place to work
    - Norwich tax have some really great people and the teams work very well together
    - Good middle management and senior management
    - Agile working gives a degree of flexibility that really does help those who have family commitments or long commutes

    Cons

    - Some of the systems are slow and can seem overly bureaucratic
    - Asides from some extra-curricular sporting activities and specific projects, tax compliance and audit have very little interaction, though I imagine this is not restricted to Grant Thornton

    Pros

I think Grant Thornton offers the opportunity to take your ideas and make them your own. I have made my own initiative, sat down with our Practice Leader to discuss ideas, shadow Partners and be part of a number of teams. I don't feel restricted to my operational role and I think the flexibility of internal mobility within the firm is really positive and not something to be ignored.

    Cons

Sometimes work loads aren't particularly varied, but I think that's more the nature of the job, rather than a GT thing. I wouldn't say there's anything particularly negative at all.

    Advice to Management

Encourage people to be inquisitive and to do something outside of just their operational function. Since I've done so, I've been a lot more motivated and feel like I can make a difference.

The training they provide is great and the training facilities are top notch! The flexible working that is being pushed is also very useful for fitting work around your life.

There seems to be a lot of people leaving and coming in at the moment which can be a bit disconcerting.

    Advice to Management

You could delegate more to junior associates.

    - Great work life balance.

I have been working at Grant Thornton UK LLP full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Great place to train.
Good environment for a new starter.
Office environment is generally a good place, plenty of positivity.
    Great feedback culture.
    Assist you in progression.

    Cons

Salary is low, although it claims to be market rate, it isn't matching up to its competitors.
Staff retention is poor possibly down to remuneration in comparison to competitors.
For a company that has a turnover of over £500m it cuts costs unnecessarily which effect staff directly, Such as removal of key benefits. This negatively effects staff morale.
Unsure of the company's real strategy, very unclear.

    Advice to Management

Ensure that staff are properly motivated to ensure that they work to the best of their ability and to ensure key staff retention.
