I have been working at GroupM full-time for less than a year

    Pros

There are some good benefits (mortgage advice and GP comes to work once a week).

    Cons

Manager sending out emails til 11pm and asking you first thing next day if you dealt with them. Expected to work evenings all the time. Lots of in house systems yet no training available. When you first start you are not given access to any of GroupM systems. You have to create IT tickets for each system and then to get them to install it one by one. It can take months for IBM to complete all this yet manager expects you deliver results from week1. Also no training available in how to use any GroupM systems. They say line manager with provide training. Line manager either in meetings or pub! Big pub culture, if you dont drink you will feel very alone. I asked other people for help using GroupM systems. They either give answer without looking at your screen which doesnt really help, or say they are too busy to help and walk away! Never worked in a place like this where there is no team work or proper training during induction!

    Advice to Management

Maybe spend less time organising silly drinking events all the time and more time on induction, training, some training manual or system user guides and helping people learn your systems (as these are the basic things when people join)?

I worked at GroupM full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Big company, broad client roster, decent office space in central London. A good company to join and experience a big networked agency group.

    Cons

Structure and systems within the company does not allow innovation to thrive - simple tasks are bogged down by process. Thin, reduced budgets and lack of investment into tenured staff. Progression or career development are not clear or (I personally felt) valued above hiring quickly and plugging gaps.

    Advice to Management

Simplify and challenge the status quo. There may be a process, but is it the right process that will lead to the right outcome? Welcome change and reward the people who will help make this happen. Company direction feels lost - what does GroupM stand for alongside the agencies? How does this fit with WPP? Communicate this clearly both internally and externally.

    Pros

Free fruit Free tea Free coffee Free milk and left over food

    Cons

Long hours Finance is a joke making up figures and inputting it into cartesis. Management is none existent and lack of support. A bullying culture withing the finance controllers. Unrealistic deadlines The business is in over $60million debt cut backs are noticable. Bringing agency's in house did not work. Good lucky if you wish to work for any WPP company

    Advice to Management

Stop promoting a culture where employees are forced to work late and bullied into it

    Pros

Free breakfast and fruit and good benefits

    Cons

No salary reviews Most managers do not know how to manage their teams successfully Ugly internal politics Awful culture, whenever you share frustrations with senior people it is made out as if it's your fault No transparency when it comes to promotions, salary reviews or next steps in your career Diverse execs and apprentices, but no such representation in more senior positions Lack of training for new joiners. You get half trained and are expected to know everything and do everything right Salary below average Turnover of staff is very high No flexible working No appreciation shown for the work you do You get picked on if they don't like your personality

    Advice to Management

Change your culture entirely by starting to invest and care about your employees. Show appreciation for what they do, more transparency on salary reviews and promotions. Start training your managers as most of don't know how to.

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at GroupM full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Best media agency group by clients / billing - Strongest negotiation position in market - Best tech, training and trading at any level - First to market with most things (market info, intelligence, POVs etc)

    Cons

    - Too many white men or white women in leadership positions. Diversity is fake and lip service its unreal. - Junior folks are typically diverse, very few are senior or even allowed to be promoted into these ranks - Lots of patronage / nepotism - Ugly internal politics - There is always a "pay freeze" or "promotion stop" every quarter yet some people get promoted without explanation or a huge executive hire is made costing 100s of thousands but a junior-mid level person asking for 5-10k is viewed as "greedy"

    Advice to Management

    - Starting being truly transparent about senior promotions and the career etymology of your most senior hires - Start promoting people who are GOOD at their jobs and not just people who look a certain way i.e "polished" - Pay junior people SLIGHTLY More i.e. move from £20k to £25k starting it will make an enormous difference
