I worked at H&R Block part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Interaction with the clients, learning tax laws to educate yourself as well as others, opportunities to learn more and receive better pay and bonus.

    Cons

It was a seasonal position so during the off season if this was your only employment you needed another job to pay for the Insurance.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you do but open more office in more areas to give people the opportunity to work within an office in the off season.

    Pros

Excellent training and strong leadership made it fairly easy to ramp up each season.

    Cons

Work-life balance wasn’t best for my family. But I’m one that can’t say “no” to extra hours.

    Advice to Management

    Improve base pay.

I worked at H&R Block part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Get your taxes done free, meet lots of people and

    Cons

Not good training, if you are doing things incorrectly they do not provide coaching, or how to correct the things you are doing wrong.

    Advice to Management

If someone is not doing a good job, although he/she gets annual reports that says they are doing good. If there is something mentioned in the annual report, there has been assistance in helping the individual improve them selves.

I have been working at H&R Block part-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

The people in the local offices and at the district level are very invested in supporting each other. The training is very good and advanced classes are readily available. Yearly CE hours are required and advanced certifications are encouraged. Client satisfaction is a local focus.

    Cons

Micro-management from the corporate level down is becoming an obsession within the company. Customer surveys are used negatively when measuring employee performance. The surveys combine questions about thing that are within the control of the employee with questions that are not such as whether the client is happy with the price. Wages for local office employees is barely above minimum wage although bonuses can be... earned.

    Advice to Management

Benefits including hourly compensation need to be re-structured to provide more incentive for good employees to stay with the company
