I worked at HCA Healthcare UK full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great for patients, terrible for employees.

    Cons

The onboarding and HR team at HCA corporate head office are incompetent with awful attitudes, management included. They are unresponsive, rude and treat people like idiots. Despite vast amounts of staff complaining about professionalism and competency within HR, nothing gets done. If you’re looking for a corporate service career in healthcare, avoid HCA like the plague. You will discover that they are wolves in sheep’s clothing, nothing is as it seems from the outside.

    Pros

Good pay if you can bare the workload and be quiet about the irregularities you notice.

    Cons

The ethos of the company strikes in contrast with reality; There is no CARE in HCA Healthcare; at least not for the employees or patients; it's just a canvas painted to show the inspection how great the company is; inflexible and very pricey; monopoly on contracts as sources of revenue , high standards presented to clients for a low price then asking the employee to reach the standards as if there are plenty of staff, supplies, time; there is an obvious contrast between what the client thinks is going to get (top of class healthcare) and the reality ( medical staff and admin staff pushed to their limits to deliver a service in rushed way which is less qualitative than NHS sometimes); the only advantage for London is that the clients have access near their office.

I have been working at HCA Healthcare UK

    Pros

I am lucky enough to have a great team and good relationships with clinicians and patients. Good if your not really sure on what you want to do as there is eventually opportunity to move to different departments although not necessarily up in the chain of command.

    Cons

We are quite often short staffed due to understaffing and high employee turnover. This happens to be a common trend in most of the admin and clerical departments throughout the hospital and consulting rooms. As a result of being so understaffed many individuals (mainly experienced staff) are quite often expected to take on extra workloads whilst also training new starters. Management don’t care to support front line staff or improve working conditions even though they are some of the first people to greet patients and visitors. Lack of efficiency in admin in clerical roles can sometimes affect clinical aspect of the department; creating a ripple effect resulting in front line staff feeling the brunt of it in all directions.
