Pros

Noting not one single one

Cons

If you want to turn your career into High school politics then this is the place for you. The leadership (using this term forcibly) cares more about how cool they appear to be then anything. Any good ideas and creative is washed away to follow some out dated trends from outdated Creative Directors whom micro manage teams. Also try paying your employees a fair wage! HZ pays far below market rate on all positions with no bonus or proper yearly review with your real milestones or achievements considered. Out of the whole company there are some good people, but my advice is to get out while you can and find a place that will actually care about you and your professional growth. This is the worst company Ive ever worked for in all my years in the industry. Highly recommend you look elsewhere.

We’re sorry to hear that you didn’t enjoy your time at HZ. HZ is a living organization that’s dedicated to fearless evolution. We evolve not only to meet the needs of clients, but also to ensure that employees have fulfilling experiences, challenging assignments and the opportunity to learn on the job. Our team is our family. And we’re a busy, growing family! Our HZ Heroes program, which was created last year, helps us celebrate the great folks who always go the extra mile, bring positivity and keen insights to every conversation, or just make our days better with humor, incredible talent or a little bit of both. We recognize the importance of taking a step back to celebrate everyday victories and big wins with gusto. It’s true that the fast-paced nature of agency life isn’t for the faint of heart. Working with tight deadlines means that we can’t always pursue every idea that comes out of a brainstorm. We’re committed to not just doing great work, but the right work for our clients. We take a collaborative, consultative approach to branding, digital marketing and advertising, and work with every client to determine the best solution to their business challenges and opportunities. And because we’re solutions-based, we encourage employees to write reviews and will continue to encourage that dialogue. Everyone in the HZ community—current and former employees alike—should feel free to provide constructive feedback. HZ values transparency and effective communication. Because of this, we are creating an anonymous digital "feedback box" to ensure that current HZ employees have a way to voice concerns, express opinions and cheer on positive change. This feedback will be read and carefully considered by HZ’s executive team. Job satisfaction and professional development are important to us and we know that they're essential to attracting and retaining great talent. In 2016, we launched a mentorship program that has created valuable, meaningful connections for team members. Additionally, HZ does have a formal annual review process that includes a qualitative assessment of employee achievements. As HZ continues to grow and work with fantastic clients, we are dedicated to cultivating a supportive and unique culture. We have always been and always will be only as good as our staff. We are focused on making sure team members know how important they are, and are rewarded for their hard work. I’ve been with HZ for 20 years now, and I can say without hesitation that the teammates I work with are part of my family and that one of the great things about this agency is the mutual respect between colleagues. They’re good people. Thanks for your honest feedback, and please feel free to reach out to me if you'd like to discuss anything further. Glenn Watts Chief Operating Officer

Pros

There are some incredibly talented people at HZ. I really enjoyed working with many of them. Free beer, sometimes. Great Christmas party and dinner at the owner's mansion.

Cons

Where to start... Onboarding: one useful session of administrative stuff. For the rest you are on your own. Except for the hours-long gossip sessions from my manager that not only wasted my time but made me uncomfortable. I suppose it was meant to educate me about the traits of some of the people I would have to work with. I'd rather have learned that sort of thing myself and instead focused on learning about the actual work at hand. Management: immature, unaccountable, ineffectual, unresponsive, untrained. They'd give you the impression that they wanted to help. But they just tried to placate you with excuses or a small token of a "fix" like creating another meeting. When my direct manager displayed behavior that in just about any other workplace would have been cause for termination, I was told to "manage up". I was told they knew there were "growing pains"; "it's a marathon, not a sprint". I was told to "stick it out". Benefits: make sure get the benefits you pay for. I did not. My managers and HR would ignore/say they were working on it/convenient response of the day. I was bounced from one person to the other except for the owners, who I was told not to contact about this issue. What? In retrospect I should have gone to them but even then I'm doubtful anything would have been done. Manipulation, CYA, gossip, being mocked in front of your coworkers, head games are the norm here. Working here felt like being constantly hazed. Read the other reviews. We're not making this stuff up. The reviewer who wrote about workplace trauma being a real thing hit the nail on the head. Writing this brings it all back.
