I have been working at Hastings Direct full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Free tea & coffee once a day
    Free fruit
Buy & sell 3 days holiday

    Cons

    - No parking, EVER.
    - Coaches are unhelpful; nobody is even sure what they’re employed to do. Chat?!
    - Unfair breaks across the business; 1hr lunches in claims & 50mins in Retail.
    - Very sales and target driven, which you aren’t informed about until you’re on the floor.
    - Very stressful for no reward and uncompetitive salary.
    - Over populated amount of senior staff who never seem to be helpful, just grateful that they’re off the phones.
    - No reward for over achieving, & no progression unless you are in with the correct group of people.
    - Dehumanising & demotivating job (retail), which should merely be used as a stepping stone & not as a long term career.

    Advice to Management

Treat all staff fairly & equally across the business; give everyone an equal lunch!

Treat your retail staff with more respect and not just like machines.

    Pros

    Location other than that nothing

    Cons

Promised development, the company has no idea what that actually means. Favouritism for right people. Recent Internal Managemnt have no idea or proven expirence. No support structure and targets that keep moving. Team leaders are absolutely useless and no confidence in taking complaints. Why are u team leaders? No support for new starters literally thrown in the deep end. Academy is the worse as it's a numbers game and no formal handover for newbies. How they won awards amazes me as they do very little work and complete review paperwork three months down the line to cover themselves. Could go on but what's the point it's a mess.

    Advice to Management

Seriously look closer at the people you are promoting and hiring. No wonder the company is in a mess. Processes need to be streamlined and your top heavy with less chiefs dictating. Focus on keeping good people who care not the ones who show they do but don't! Get managers to value staff not treat them as a number taking calls.

I worked at Hastings Direct full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Flexible working hours
Working from home once or twice a week
    Friendly environment

    Cons

    No planning or organisation whatsoever.
No clear vision on where the business is heading towards to.
There is no clear allocation of responsibility among departments and individuals - managers avoid responsibility!
Scope of projects gets changed all the time and all effort put into them is basically void.
Management lacks basic skillset to lead and direct employees.
HR department ignores their own faults and mask their inability to keep their people happy by arranging random events every year - This department is the exact opposite of a proper HR environment.
There are no feedback mechanisms which will allow you to progress professionally.
There are no objectives or aims where you can discuss progress and career achievements.
There are zero conversations around professional development.
In certain business areas, the environment can be a blame culture.
Many qualified people of high professional calibre who are not from Bexhill area leave within a year - the only employees that decide to stay in the company have ties in Bexhill/Hastings area; and sometimes, the ones staying aren’t of high professional calibre - this says a lot!

    Advice to Management

Just change your culture, you’re cutting corners and the quality of the job you deliver is very poor. Ensure there are processes in place which will develop your employees and ensure consistency over them. Cut off all the unnecessary drama and focus on the important aspects of an everyday’s job.

As much as you offer some benefits such as flexibility, lack of career challenges and development along with unnecessary drama will always make your best employees leave, while you are left with the complacent ones.

I have been working at Hastings Direct full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Subsidised costa coffee.... and that's literally it!

    Cons

The worst company ive ever worked for! Avoid like the plague unless you are desperate for the money. The lower level managers are useless and lack actual experience in the roll and are constantly trying to out do each other. They employ about half the staff they actually need so everyone is hugely overworked and stressed.

Ive never worked for a big corporation with such a horrendous sick problem and so many people signed off with work related stress and anxiety. And the worst bit is they have the cheek to blame the staff for the impossible mountains of work not getting done and put you on a personal improvment plan if you dont do what all the other terrified people around you do and work through every break and then stay after your shift ends and come in unpaid at weekends. Oh and dont bother trying to book annual leave as they expect you to clear the work you would have done during your time off before they will authorise your leave!

Dont even think about promotion unless you are straight out of school and happy to get drunk with the managers every weekend and suck up to the right people. They dont offer people promotion based on actual skills and experience but purely on how submissive you are as the manager have so little experience themselves they dont want to be challanged by somone who actually has experience and knows the insurance industry.

Avoid avoid avoid they were a great company to work for 10 years ago but have changed so much over that time that i wouldn't even recommended them to someone i disliked as im not that cruel!
