    Good training; broadly nice people

    Cons

    Long hours; do not come with any expectations as to the direction of your TC - secondments are hotly competitive and London seats depend on business need and demand from other trainees.

    Decent pay, decent people and top-notch work (particularly in Disputes).

    The usual downsides of working in a largish city law firm - long hours (sometimes difficult to predict) and demanding clients.

    - prestige and bragging rights (lasts a month at best) - quality and value of work - intellectual people to learn from - salaries - subsidised cafe - nice swanky offices

    Cons

    - long hours - little work life balance - paralegals treated like scum and a tolerated inconvenience. - pressure and work had to be done yesterday

    I worked at Herbert Smith Freehills full-time

    Pros

    The people are great and there was always a collaborative spirit on all deals I worked on. The supervisor system for trainees works well and the review process is managed well by HR. Excellent opportunities for international secondments all over the world.

    Cons

    There can be a significant amount of facetime, long hours sometimes are not acknowledged.

    Pros

    Good teams, great benefits and facilities. Good working atmosphere and a great place to develop skills and attend training sessions. It is also possible to have a good work life balance and flexible working options.

    Cons

    Unpaid overtime for some staff and some long hours are required by most departments. Some of the facilities are dated and require extensive training.

    Good exposure to high profile transactional deals, and litigation. Well paid - hours can be good at times. Early international exposure.

    Cons

    Lots of paper work, photocopying at times. Bundling. Long hours. Menial tasks. Requires humility!
