I worked at Hermitage Hotel full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Beautiful, historic property that has seen a lot of capable individuals come and go

    Cons

Managing Director is the reason why this hotel is being ran to the ground. Poor choices are constantly being made and there is lack of regard for employees at every level. I have never seen such condescending behavior and blatant disregard for others in my entire professional career. Hotel has a horrible reputation in the industry, particularly at the local level, which is why they recruit so much talent from outside Nashville. This is not somewhere to grow professionally. Think twice.

I worked at Hermitage Hotel full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Beautiful and unique hotel You bond with your fellow coworkers quickly because of the hatred you feel towards your upper management

    Cons

Turnover rate is incredibly high due to toxic work environment which trickles directly down from the general manager. The pay is not up to par with the standards of the hotel. Pay for parking will be taken out of your check unless you’re management. The GM once made a comment about spraying homeless people with water if they’re lingering outside of the hotel. The environment for the guests is beautiful but once you’re in the back of house, it is DIRTY. Cockroaches are everywhere in the restaurants and in the basement which is where laundry & the employee cafeteria are. The employee cafeteria is FILTHY.. one employee actually had his tooth break because a rock was in his salad.

    I worked at Hermitage Hotel

    Pros

I’d be really digging for a pro if I listed one but honestly can’t think of a single positive thing about working here.

    Cons

There is 0 culture here. Quick to point the blame. It’s the most rat, roach, trash infested place you’ll ever work at. Just do yourself the favor and don’t bother. Read the comments below and ask people in the industry the reputation of this place and you’ll understand.

I worked at Hermitage Hotel full-time

    Pros

The line level team that works there is amazing. Some of the nicest people I've ever met. Do they deliver Forbes 5-star service? Most of them--no. There's a lot of history and it's a solid location.

    Cons

The senior leadership--or lack there of. They are completely out of touch and consistently point fingers and the blame. The owners clearly have no idea where the problem is. When you lose 5 different leaders in different departments over a 6 month period (when they've worked there for less than 6 months) that should be a red flag. Bandaids are placed on every problem: from the kitchen overflowing with human waste (and the restaurant remains open), to crime scenes in rooms that managers have to clean, to front desk team getting spit on and demeaned and senior leaders invite those guests back. Furthermore, there is no security at the hotel and it is actually a free for all. People have sex in the "historic" men's room all the time and "it's not a big deal". Should we start talking about the roaches??? I think this should suffice. There are so many mediocre and great establishments in Nashville that someone would be more happy working at. I'd never refer anyone here.

    Cons

The place is in the middle of nowhere, nearest city is around 3 hours by car.
