    Save Yourself the Trouble

    Pros

Good discount, recently change to 15% off name brand products and 30% off owned brand products. Lots of opportunities for extra training. Lots of opportunities for extra hours as most stores are understaffed, and you can sometimes be asked to cover in nearby stores as well. Ideal sort of work for someone who enjoys health, wellness, fitness, and alternative medicine. On a side note, my manager was a raving lunatic. She either loved you or wasn't speaking to you, and you never which until you showed up that day.

    Cons

Almost every store is understaffed which creates a lot of stress on employees. Pay is consistently wrong - be it holiday pay, bonuses, magazine premiums, or hours worked. For a company that claims to be environmentally focused, there is a lot of wasted paper/plastic, even fuel - there have been weeks where we received ONE item on our chilled and frozen delivery! The till software is painfully slow and not optimal for the way it needs to be used. The company pours a lot of money into really superficial things - hand held terminals which didn't work for the first six months we had them, constantly creating new websites and applications which are difficult to use and crash frequently, all while: Ignoring necessary repairs and refits that need to be made. The sensor for our automatic doors broke which caused the doors to slide open even when set to manual. The lock was faulty, and the key for the fire alarm was broken, but none of these were considered high enough priority to be rectified. Stock deliveries are either all or nothing. The stock room is either bare, or there is stock overflowing into the hallways. There is no one to talk to about grievances. There seems to be absolutely no communication between the different levels of management. Shop workers tend to be left high and dry, with little to no support from customer services. The pay is crap for the amount of training you're required to do.

Great place to work and develop skills

Aug 21, 2019 - Retail Store Manager in Bristol, England, England

    Pros

    - Investment in employee development (A-levels qualification equivalent) If you’re interested in learning about nutrition, herbal remedies, supplements or interested in learning in general there’s no better place to be. The company invests a lot in training, has a state-of-the-art on line platform where you’re able to navigate through the different subjects in a very fun way. None of the competitors will provide the in-depth/extensive training H&B provides. - Healthy living Once you learn so much about nutrition/herbs/vitamins and their benefits you can’t help but apply it all in your own life. - Opportunity to progress Hard work never goes unnoticed. Plenty of opportunities if you are not afraid to work hard and take pride in doing a good job. Being a large company, there’s opportunity to work in different roles, even different countries. - Friendly environment Some great colleagues I’ve had the pleasure to work with @ H&B, true gems!

    Cons

I don’t think there are any specific ‘Cons’ I could list since the company has been going through a lot of improvements lately, from process updates to new technology to help simplify our day-to-day life. I’m sure they won’t stop there!
