The amount of training and test requirements might put part timers off.

I have been working at Holland & Barrett Retail part-time

    Pros

I love working on the shop floor and you are trained to know all the products so you can assist customers with their needs. It’s great to have this knowledge as I’m really interested in natural products. They are currently improving all products so they are vegan.

    Cons

The managerial side is not great! I wasn’t paid properly for my first month. There seems to be a huge problem with payroll.
There is also lots of politics surrounding this company which I don’t like

    Advice to Management

Respect your workers, say thankyou and pay properly

I worked at Holland & Barrett Retail part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Employee discount during Christmas.
    Exciting offers

    Cons

I would never recommend anyone to work for this company.
Pay does not align with the amount of work given. Too much position-oriented type of work. Extreme bias. Would never recommend to this anyone. No wonder this company is known to be the worst company to work for.
Even the payroll department have issues to pay their workers the right way.

    Advice to Management

Please start treating employees equally and also stop with the bias that runs in the store. A little bit respect should be considered for employees.

I worked at Holland & Barrett Retail full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Amazing staff, discount, products and customers

    Cons

Lone trading. Not enough staff to do all the tasks. Favouritism from higher roles. No stability. 7 asm in 5years. Very poor pay for the job. Managers expected to work way over their hours.

    Advice to Management

Pay more, show consistency from management. Value your staff. Spend a few hours lone trading in a busy store and see what it’s really like.

    Pros

Nothing to say about this matter

    Cons

You are left all alone with the training left in the dark and then rushed into completing them all

    Advice to Management

Management team left everyone else to do everything on the shop floor all the time and would just be in the back on their phones. You were put down on the rota for more hours then contracted without being asked and then always being asked to cover others shifts because they were “sick”

    Pros

Interesting job. Back ground reading really interesting.

    Cons

Management rude, swear, talk to staff below them like they are infants. Dishonest. Pass blame onto others.

    Advice to Management

Treat staff below you as equals.

I have been working at Holland & Barrett Retail part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Level 2 qualification after passing a test
    - Commission
    - Acquire knowledge about different vitamins and minerals and help customers with their ailments
    - Opportunity to progress onto a management role
    - 25% discount for all staff, 50% during the Christmas period

    Cons

    - Only receive commission if you receive good surveys and you need to get 75% and over in customer engagement just to get full commission and 65% to get half commission which isn't always possible. If you don't hit the target you get no commission and you have to greet, approach and recommend an item to every customer just to get a good survey in order to get commission.
    - Company is always short staffed
    - Very strenuous work
    - Managers put pressure on you to sign up customer to the Holland and Barrett Loyalty card system.

    Advice to Management

    - Stop talking behind your workers backs and smiling in our faces and stop doing favoritism. If there's a problem, it is expected of you to approach your worker rather than talking about them in their absence
