      Good company to work for

      Pros

The staff discount is good. The courses you have to take are relatively easy and kind of interesting. I worked at a small store so got to know my co workers pretty well very quickly. It was nice to feel like I was making a good contribution to the daily operations of the store. Management were very nice and understanding if I needed to change a shift.

      Cons

Customers can often treat you like a doctor, they kind of expect you to know exactly how to treat health issues. Having to complete the courses seems like a bit much for a standard retail position and wage.

      Good in places, BUT...

      Pros

      - The pay rate was actually decent, especially during lockdown when was raised (temporarily) by 10%. - Good colleagues - Staff discount was 25% off everything, now is 35% of H&B, 10% off everything else that's not too bad imo - For a shop sales job, basically you could do a lot worse

      Cons

      - Aggressively cost cutting company to the point of it being actively detrimental, my branch was in desperate need of even a superficial cheap refit, everything was held together with tape and the staff facitilies were disgusting. - Truely archaic technology, useless tills, every promotion (one every 3/4 weeks) would be totally broken somehow and even at the bottom of the hierarchy was very annoying to have to constantly apologise to customers over - Absolute chaos behind the scenes during covid, look at trust pilot for what customers thought about it then imagine standing there being 'the face of the company' with loads of rightly pissed off customers - Stupid targets, like what's even the point in half of them - Culture of sole-trading being acceptable is a joke in this day and age

Worst place I have worked for!

      Pros

Staff Discount, cool products to try in the head-office, nice toilets to go and cry in

      Cons

Everything else... Bullying culture from the top to the bottom, no respect for employees, no work-life balance, working 60-70 hours a week was the norm and was expected. Meeting after meetings and no time to do your job during working hours. So much shouting and disrespect from top management. Racism at it's peak and I could go on for hours.

What a great time to be working for them

      Pros

Good starting wage, 25% staff discount, recognised qualifications after product training, ethical company with well respected values. Cruelty free, no Parabens, SLS and no microbeads in products. There's never been a better time to work for them, with new leadership in place and some amazing changes to make work life easier as well as being on board with some new brands of ethical beauty that are zero waste, Holland and Barrett really are leading the way for the future. I've worked for the company for 6 years now and I'm very passionate about them.

      Cons

Don't get me wrong, there are some cons, but isn't there anywhere you work? Staff shortages can cause stress and increased work load. But it's usually a temporary issue and easily resolved.

      Cons

The training needs to be really stuck at if you are to succeed. Sometimes you have to work by yourself a couple of hours when its quiet

      Cons

Little direction from directors. Upper ma agement have no idea of the realities of shop floor work. Corporate staff treated much better than retail staff.

Should really take a minute to assess their staff's wellbeing!

      Pros

Getting to learn about products in detail. Staff discount. When I started work for the company in 2017, the company was better to work for but since seem to have lost any concern for looking after their retail staff, cutting more and more hours and benefits. I was fortunate to leave in July, after speaking to former colleagues I'm shocked the situation only seems to have become worse since.

      Cons

A lot of lone working, inadequate security, no CCTV in shops, despite issues with shop lifters and intimidating customers. In a bid to save money, duty managers left to work alone for 4 hours a day. Complaints and concerns not taken seriously by higher management. Hours cut and staff forced into contracts not suited to their needs. Company require flexibility from staff but totally unwilling to allow any flexibility in return. Staff expected to work 3 hour shifts. So inconvenient for anyone who has a commute. Shifts spread across numerous days with little flexibility, so it's difficult to get a second part time job. For a while I was not being paid correctly, HR operate remotely, with staff not given a direct telephone number, complaints not taken seriously and took me and another colleague 3 months to get our pay corrected. Disgusting and hypocritical that a company focusing on wellbeing has so little regard for the wellbeing of their staff. The company only cares about profit, they make a massive amount on products that cost pennies to manufacture. Expect staff to hard sell on 'miracle cures' stuff which may just have a placebo effect.

A lot of the H&B staff goes through the same struggles working there

      Pros

A lot of knowledge about nutrition and supplements through working day to day and the training that the company provides Staff/colleagues are often really friendly, family-like environment since each store tends to employ less than 10 people Feeling of fulfillment when you can help customers with their problem Easily to progress in the company Never bored if you work in a busier location 25% staff discount and 50% off for Christmas, discount is really good especially on top of the constant offers

      Cons

High staff turnover A lot of responsibility even on sales associates/supervisors Pressure to sign up people to the loyalty card The role requires a lot of self learning since there's exams you need to pass in-order to progress to be qualified to advise
