I have been working at Hollister Co. full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible. discount. Lots of locations. Great for people finding their feet. Responsibility is from the get go. 20 words is hard to fill

    Cons

No work life or company perks. Little is done about store bonding. I.e no staff team building etc not much protection managers for disciplining a associate

    Advice to Management

Increase corporate activities for store management. I.e have quarterly staff days out

    Cons

    - Company does not know how to treat their staff
    - Schedule hours preferable to upper management and usually late shifts are completed by Assistant Manager's
    - Poor promotional opportunities- usually bring someone from another store
    - Office politics

    Advice to Management

Learn to value your staff and it could reduce your management turnover. (In 6 months, 6 Managers left)

    Advice to Management

Interact more with team, keep morale up and spend time on shop floor reinforcing basic rules or team may become slack

I worked at Hollister Co. full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

NONE. Except the pay which is great if you weren't in such an awful job.

    Cons

Illegal hours, it was not a concern of anyone’s but mine when it was expected of me to work 13 hour days and often without a break just to ''get the job done'', ''it's what you have to do''.
Power crazy senior staff, unrealistic goals everyday, they care about the most insignificant details such as the ''standards'' of the cleaning cupboard.
Empty promises of transfers to other locations and quick promotions.
They hire so many young and inexperienced people that the atmosphere is bitchy and juvenile.
You have to constantly pay for uniform about 4 times a year which even with discount can cost you £50 - £100 at a time, even though your contract says you don't have to purchase it you are constantly pressured and asked about it by your manager and district manager.
Unfair shift patterns as the schedules are created in store by a manager and not monitored.
There is no real Human Resources department to contact for issues, a generic number is provided only and it is a voicemail service.

    Advice to Management

    Nothing could help these people.

I worked at Hollister Co. full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very lenient with your schedule during slow seasons.
    Good benefits (medical, dental, etc.)

    Cons

    Work most weekends.
Higher management didn't seem to care about my future.
Promotions are highly dependent on others moving on.

    Advice to Management

Try to care more about all of your store managers. I worked there for a while, and never truly felt respected by the company.

I worked at Hollister Co. full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people, generous discount, good music

    Cons

Unrealistic expectations of upper management, unfair work load (some managers are favored so do less work), all your money goes back to buying their clothes

    Advice to Management

    Don't be stingy on hours

I have been working at Hollister Co. full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

It's a good way to gain experience in business and management. You learn about business metrics such as traffic and conversion and how everything relates to sales.

    Cons

There is a very high turnover, and it's a very high stress environment if you're at a high volume store

I worked at Hollister Co. full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible schedule, fun people working with you. If you want a job where you pretty much just sit around & do nothing & feel like the lowest of the low in this world, work here

    Cons

I'm not sure about the other District Mangers, but mine did not show much interest in any of the stores she had to oversee, unless sh!t was going down the drain. She micro manged a lot for someone who never came in to see the store, see how things were doing (even though our store always met or beat last years goals & always had #1 revenue in the region), let alone cared much about her employees and their growth. The District Manger at my store was the worst that we had at least 5 people quit on her within a 1-2 month span because of how crazy she is.

It's also a retail store, so regardless where you work, that blows, but especially at Hollister. The DM would always say how she will try to help you get where you need to be for a higher position at a corporate level, but that never happened. We had a previous Store Manager working there for 3 years, one of the hardest working SM's in the region, and he never got promoted.

Pay also blows. To be a manger you need to have a college degree & you're only getting paid around $13 an hour, no commission or bonuses at all. Most part time jobs get paid that much now a days. Not to mention, it's also a joke of a job when you tell your friends working at a much more respectful corporate company, making way more, telling them you work at Hollister as a post grad career.

    Advice to Management

pay more attention to your employees
