I worked at Home Depot Canada part-time for more than a year

    Pros

For part time work this is a great option for students and retirees. Very good corporate culture: great management, free food on holidays, quarterly meetings with profit sharing bonuses, and paid training (Sometimes off-site). Management is very flexible if you need to take time off or change your schedule. Working on the floor is a good way to keep in shape, learn about home improvement, and customer service....

    Cons

Pay is low, considering that some departments such as Building Materials + Lumber require you to be physically fit, trained to operate the saw & forklifts, and often help the parking attendants load vehicles. This job isn't for everyone and to be successful you need to have a willingness to learn what you sell. The pay should reflect the added training & physical labour, as well as the sometimes unhealthy...

    Advice to Management

To retain quality employees in the Building Materials + Lumber department, I suggest increasing their pay. Coming from someone in great shape who worked multiple departments, Building Materials is much more work than the others, you often come home feeling completely exhausted. Otherwise keep up all the great work!

I have been working at Home Depot Canada part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

You get your schedule 3 weeks in advance, can cross-train into different departments so you're not stuck in one position, part-time benefits (only so-so but at least part-timers get benefits), if there is coverage you can quite often get time off, customer service is a huge focus of the company, associates get success sharing if their store has met and beat their goal each half, the company donates to local charities...

    Cons

You HAVE to help in departments the moment you're cross-trained into them so you can't focus on your own job, even you're trained on the machines there are no perks other than having to drive it for every single department and not being able to work on your own tasks, no perks to being trained on the saw or blind cutter and such other than being the one management calls on the moment the department is tied up (because...

    Advice to Management

Please support your associates more! If a customer is yelling at an associate, please tell the customer we don't tolerate abuse of employees and tell them to come back when they are willing to act in a calm manner. It really sucks getting yelled at for doing your job and following policy and then having a manager come over and apologize to the CUSTOMER and give them what they want even when it's against policy. At least...
