I have been working at Horizon Media full-time

    Pros

Cool company, growing fast and young environment.

    Cons

the pay is so low most people who work at the company entry level are commuting into the city and living at home with their parents. The culture in some of the departments is cliquey and feels like a college.

    Advice to Management

HR needs to work on how they can help employees who reach out for help. Increase pay if you want loyal employees.

  2. "Don't Fall For it! Stay Away"

    Pros

Beautiful office, coffee machines that are not keurig, and great selection of tea

    Cons

Absolutely no work life balance. Management team felt very disengenuious and honestly did not feel that they cared about their employees. Some managers completely irresponsible and undependable yet still have a job and keep getting promoted.

    Advice to Management

Try to actually foster a real relationship with your reports. Hold your management team accountable to some real standards. If your team is working until 10pm most nights and you stroll out at 5:30 to 6pm everyday that's a hint that maybe you should be helping them!

I have been working at Horizon Media full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Outstanding work environment. The company is the most caring and thoughtful company I have ever worked for. When the fires were bad in Thousand Oaks in 2018, they saw my family lived there and emailed me about offering any assistance. A company being so kind speaks volumes about the culture here. Analytics is the most cutting edge here!

    Cons

There are some long hours from time to time, but that's really part of the industry in general. For the most part it is a great work-life balance.

    Advice to Management

    None!

I worked at Horizon Media full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Office space
Free perks once in a while—if you’re willing to slave away at the job and sacrifice your mental health for a free meal or two, this is a place for you

    Cons

Oh man, where do I even begin?

The department I worked within was very cliquey. Seemed more like a frat/sorority setting than a place of profession. The higher ups—AMDs/directors will gossip among themselves about you if you don’t take time out of your day to kiss their bottoms. If you display any signs of autonomy or having a mind of your own, they will feel threatened and make you feel like you’re incompetent even though half of them don’t even know what they’re doing when it comes down to the nitty gritty. Billing process is a wreck and nobody knew what they were doing or how the client was going to pay for the service until the very last minute.

My experience here was full of incompetent leadership lacking any type of emotional intelligence, let alone intelligence. They chose to hire externally for positions that were higher up instead of promoting people who were actually qualified internally and have been with the department for several years. Most of the people who were promoted were white. The diversity among higher levels is lacking. People in high positions will pretend to care about your wellbeing during meetings, but leave at 5-5:30 on the dot, while assistants and mid level employees stayed until 7-8:30.

It was almost ridiculous how unprofessional this place was... sad to even consider this place a legitimate agency.

    Advice to Management

Higher people with better leadership skills who care about their employees instead of their own image.

Listen to lower level employees instead of promoting/hiring incompetent people.

    Pros

Great office space. Lots of perks for employees.

    Cons

Local Buying teams(tv and audio) are very cliquey. You only get ahead if you are close with SVP/VPs, not if you do good work.

    Advice to Management

Clean house within activation. Stop the favoritism and recognize those who are busting their buts.

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

The only pro is work-life balance was prioritized

    Cons

    - Didn't know my job function three months in
    - No thought to a career path
    - Laughingly penalized for asking questions
    - Intimidation factor from upper management
    - Shady way of reviewing employees (I was not not to provide bad feedback on a review out of fear that someone was looking elsewhere)
    - Management needs to learn to actually manage the team

    Advice to Management

In a time of transparency, hiring someone with certain experience that you consider not enough, means you should invest in them.
