I worked at Hotel Chocolat part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Training, staff benefits such as gift vouchers, 50% discount. Flexible with days of the week to work.

    Cons

Hard to find work/life balance, chaotic workplace (referring to behind scenes), at times a very negative atmosphere. High employee turnover, making it hard to stay motivated. Often 10 hours shifts.

    Advice to Management

Plan for effective 'breaks'- giving employees space to relax/eat without having to take part in conversations about ATV and KPI's, current profit etc would make for much more alert and happier staff when they do return to work. This was something that significantly lacked.

I have been working at Hotel Chocolat full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Learning and development (when it happens), is great.
    - District Manager (in my district) was phenomenal
    - General company ethos is wonderful

    Cons

    - Less concern for those who work in the stores day to day than there is for promoting ethical intentions
    - Incentive/appreciation for Sales Advisors is low, which leads to poor retention.

    Advice to Management

Make a little bit more of an effort to appreciate SAs, especially during peak periods.

I worked at Hotel Chocolat full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    50% Staff Discount
    Voucher at Christmas and Easter

    Cons

Constantly given targets for getting customers details.
New incentives to get customers details (even if you know full well you have them).
"One Taste" card. Also on target so persuaded to get customers likely to spend them.
Targets on "Taste Of The Month".
Poorly spelled and patronising daily news.
    Strict and indecisive upper management.
    Horrific staff turn over.
Overly complicated, unreliable, slow computer and till systems that slow service down.

    Advice to Management

Be more organised and clear before sending out instructions so that hard work is not wasted.
Targets for getting customers details is driving customers away (I know we were meant to call them "guests" but I've never bugged guests for their details over and over again)
Open stores slower so well trained staff are not spread to thinly and new staff are ready.
Treat ALL store staff nicer and they will be less likely to be scared to contact you when things go wrong
If Sales Assistant staff turn over is above 70% then maybe ask them properly what is going wrong, because the computerised "Engagement Survey" clearly isn't working.
Make the till system easier and faster and more sales will be made (many walk out as it is slow, and as HC is often an impulse purchase, it is easier for the customer to change their mind and leave)
There are lots of things to list here but they never listened to me in nearly three years so unlikely to act on any of this now!
