I worked at Howdens Joinery full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good chance for progression Fair bonus scheme, with real potential to earn great bonuses if targets are met. The Company is very successful and you will always have a job. Always found senior management to be nice even to people at the bottom of the ladder.

    Cons

You will only progress if you are interested in being a sales person as there is nothing else other than to stay in the warehouse. Branch management can make or break the job for you, on both occasions that I worked for Howdens I struggled with branch management due to unfair treatment, every branch is different as each manager is, not all bad just got unlucky with who I ended up with. Basic salary is near enough minimum wage for the hours you do end up doing. High expectations of working extra time for no overtime pay, only time in liu is given despite what it says in the employee handbook and I must not forget the Saturdays, if there is one thing I hated is working mon-sat, its just too much.

    Pros

    Cons

If targets are not achieved management is not equipt to deal with the situation and if further training is required and asked for it is not given. LONG probation periods expected to cover other job roles on a daily basis

I have been working at Howdens Joinery full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good bonus scheme, company car (base model Astra)

    Cons

Bully culture, Big targets, constant pressure from manager, managers scared of area managers, more paperwork and check lists than you can imagine, early starts, COLD FACE CALLING!, moody staff. Do I need to go on? Don't work here.

I have been working at Howdens Joinery full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Competitive base salary Fantastic bonus scheme Great pension and share scheme Amazing career progression Howdens is a fantastic place to work, in fact 7th best Big company to work for according to the Sunday times top 100 list. It's fast paced and reactive. There's sometimes a bit of pressure, but it's a sales driven business. The hours are longer than other companies perhaps, but you're well compensated for them. The best thing about Howdens is the career progression. I don't know of another company where you can walk into the warehouse with no qualifications and end up a depot/area/regional manager.

    Cons

There are quite a lot of brand sceptics and brand saboteurs in the company. If positivity is infectious, then negativity is a damn epidemic. A lot of "been there, done that, heard it all before" people, who seem to want to spread their bitterness at never getting further than their attitude has got them.

    I worked at Howdens Joinery

    Pros

Fairly competitive bonus scheme (dependent on quality of Kitchen Designer(s)), benefits package very much of use including discount on new car etc

    Cons

While it depends wholly on the branch or depot, my experience was one of constant lack of communication between the office and the warehouse. I passed all updates and information to the office, but that courtesy was not reciprocated. I had to fight every inch to find out what was going on each day. The warehouse work like picking kitchens or putting a load away wasn't even attempted during approved absences like holiday resulting in a backlog that only grew. One warehouse operative was not nearly enough to cover everything. Finally, the office staff believe themselves naturally above the warehouse staff, cliques are incredibly common and it's not uncommon to find warehouse staff isolated during the working day by other staff.

I worked at Howdens Joinery for less than a year

    Pros

Decent salary and bonus scheme. Worked with mainly nice people and easy to build a relationship with customers

    Cons

Management have no people skills and upper management do not properly address staffs concerns. No proper training given a few days on a course that teaches you nothing about your role is pointless

I have been working at Howdens Joinery full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good bonus scheme, job security and some good company events that are paid for, go karts and bowling for instance

    Cons

Trying to be too many things to too many people now. If you don't move then you stand still but you have to be sure your step is in the right direction! Looking like they're going down the MFI road right now
