I worked at IHS Markit full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

One of the friendliest offices you'll ever work in. Fairly interesting project with some really intelligent, and interesting people working on it.

    Cons

The company as a whole faces typical large company issues. Bureaucracy, red tape, sluggishness, and very little collaboration beyond teams on a specific project. But all these issues exist at the wider corporate level.

I have been working at IHS Markit full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Employees come from a range of backgrounds and cultures, which promotes the idea of togetherness. Relatively exciting project to work on, flexible working hours and number of benefits. Shares and bonus sometimes available

    Cons

Software development that comprises multiple teams and geographical regions can always be improved on and it is a struggle to see the tangible improvements in a reasonable time. Agile processes in place but disparate between the teams and management

I have been working at IHS Markit full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The project our team is working on is actually very interesting and challenging. The Product Manager is very involved into the project, and was able to create a dynamic team.

    Cons

There's no need to do your best, you won't get rewarded by a decent pay rise or a bonus. Even if your line manager think you deserve it, HR will cut it off. "Colleagues" are not valued by management, the only thing they care about is cutting budgets to make the company look good on the stock market.

    Advice to Management

Sending daily emails about "colleague engagement" and "customer delight" is not enough, you should actually try to DO something about it, or at least help us achieve these goals.

I worked at IHS Markit full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great people to work with. Company has lot's of projects going on to modernize their software moving into the cloud so there is plenty of work for software developers. Flexible work hours. Great pay and bonuses. Free lunch Mon-Thurs.

    Cons

You'll need many years of experience to lead a software project here due to the domain knowledge required and software complexity

    Advice to Management

Try to disseminate the tribal knowledge faster and earlier in the cycle or new hires.

I have been working at IHS Markit full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - Working alongside talented people - Flexible work schedule - Service days where you can volunteer for charity - They know they're not perfect and they are *trying* to change (but not doing a very good job of it in all areas)

    Cons

    - No career advancement opportunities. Recently they've recognized that everyone knows this and is hugely frustrated about it, but their efforts to remediate this are laughably ineffective. Each year they have a quota of how many people they are allowed to promote. So, you may genuinely merit a promotion, but you'll have to get in line and wait. - There's no appreciation of expertise. If there's a skill that you're strong at and want to develop further, management will almost certainly place you in a position where you don't actually get to use it much. - Left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. - Place is filled with project managers but everything is done at the last minute in crisis mode (and the code quality reflects that). - No matter how insanely stupid a client request is, management will always say yes to it - Given the choice between coding something the right way and throwing together a hacky kludge, the hacky kludge wins every time.
