I have been working at ION Geophysical full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

the people are the only plus point. but the good ones are mostly leaving or thinking of leaving.

    Cons

Executives have no idea how to run a succesful company, morale is the worst it's been, no one cares about employees.

    Advice to Management

retire or leave, just go somewhere else and give us a chance to concentrate on the core business that actually generates money and forget about all the fantastic loss making ideas.

I worked at ION Geophysical full-time

    Pros

International opportunities; multi-faceted services offered by company provide for interesting breadth of experience; comfortable, friendly work environments; possible to negotiate good pay; private healthcare.

    Cons

Management decisions (from departmental up to boardroom) sometimes bewildering; some departmental focus on quantity rather than quality/lack of long view; some signs of disconnect between what clients want and what ION wants to give; relatively poor pension options.

    Advice to Management

Some departments may benefit (morale, results) from stronger leadership. Stronger departmental leadership may come from more rigorous, transparent, merit-based assessment of promotion candidates and from management training for middle management.

I worked at ION Geophysical full-time for less than a year

    Pros

ION have a good thing going and look after their employees well. There is a good work ethic and employees are given independence early.

    Cons

Not many spring to mind. As with all seismic contractors there is a tendency to look inwards too much and not necessarily be aware of their own weaknesses. This does not make it a bad place to work however.

    I worked at ION Geophysical

    Pros

Good bunch of new talented geoscientists coming up the ranks.

    Cons

Oversold at interview - turn around time for feedback and job offer was ridiculous. Didn't listen to gut and took the job anyway. Big mistake. ION have no integrity or care for their employees. Top heavy on management, ZERO confidence in top level executive leadership and politics galore. Witnessed numerous cases of actual bullying in the Egham office and everyone turned a blind eye. Horrible location - cost...

I have been working at ION Geophysical

    Pros

Technically challenging and interesting projects; friendly and helpful colleagues and pretty good working conditions overall with good training to support staff

    Cons

Top heavy management structures; board and CEO putting the survival of the company at risk through inappropriate strategy decisions; playing at big company corporate America detracts focus from the real issues in the organisation

I worked at ION Geophysical full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

You will work with some truly fantastic people. The products are fascinating. Managers in the Edinburgh office are open, honest and great to work for. You can learn a lot there.

    Cons

ION globally is a mess. Very poor communication with areas of the corporation outside of your immediate office. It's often difficult to understand what the overall goals and strategies of the corporation are and what the justification for them is. Upper management seem to lack leadership skills and prefer buzz words to actual information.

    Advice to Management

Make goals and strategies, as well as their justification, clearer. Improve communication between areas of the corporation. Leverage the company as a whole, rather than individual parts. Stop throwing good money after bad.
