Toxic work culture and no career progression

Pros

Colleagues are mission driven and always happy to help out, and committee members are mostly lovely people to interact and work with.

Cons

It is a very difficult place to work at and the pandemic has made it even harder. There are so many things that go wrong: 1. There is a policy of not promoting employees, which makes your career stagnate even though you constantly take on more responsibilities and workload 2. Salaries are always on the low end 3. The amount of processes and a rigid hierarchy in a small organisation of less than 50 people make your life difficult and change impossible 4. The organisation won’t take any concrete measures to help employees struggling with mental health issues 5. A culture of overworking and blaming & bullying creates huge amounts of pressure and stress 6. Complete lack of transparency 7. Micromanaging culture

No concern whatsoever for staff wellbeing

Pros

The opportunity to work with a passionate, international community towards a very worthwhile cause.

Cons

There is a rigidly enforced hierarchy and very little chance of progression. Communication from senior to lower-level colleagues and between teams is unreliable and difficult, and there is a pervasive atmosphere of individual blame and passing responsibility. Unachievable targets and chaotic leadership mean unhealthy working hours are the norm and have resulted in many employees struggling with stress and poor mental health, but nothing concrete has been done to acknowledge or improve this.

Micro Management and Bullying

Pros

I worked with some wonderful and inspiring colleagues who believed in making a difference

Cons

I was inspired to work for ISUOG because Women and Women's health is an area I have always been interested in. But despite at the time the workforce being made up of mostly women, I never felt any female empowerment in fact it was totally the opposite and it saddens me to think there is still a culture of overworking, blaming and bullying. I found it a very a difficult place to work especially due to the level of micro management, unrealistic expectations and demands - there was never any compromise, you had to do as told. There is a rigid hierarchy and any changes however small could not be implemented without management agreeing. There was a huge level of work and pressure to have tasks completed, which meant staying late most days. I felt bullied by one particular staff member but was no HR and their behaviour continued unchecked. The issue lies completely within the Senior Management team and colleagues should never have to be treated with such disrespected and un-appreciation which I experienced.
