I worked at Iceland Foods part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Nice customers. Certain colleagues were nice. Pay decent.

    Cons

Management are good people, but clearly stressed out and constantly busy. Not very friendly, warm or supportive. Also impossible to accomplish certain tasks due to the insane time constraints. You run about like a headless chicken, once you start doing one thing, you are immediately alerted to the checkout. The severe lack of staff doesn't help. Weekly hours as a part time employee inconsistent, one week you're doing 8 hours, the next as many as 24.

    Advice to Management

Actually be friendly and warm with your employees, get a sense of humour and hire more people.

I have been working at Iceland Foods part-time

    Pros

Family ran business, with a definite feel of the situation. Some good ethical concerns, such as the use of palm oil in goods ( and how to reduce it)

    Cons

They still use an awful lot of plastic carrier bags. The stores are always very busy, which gives little time for any staff bonding.

    Advice to Management

Either stop selling plastic bags altogether or increase their price. Put out posters, emails and leaflets encouraging customers to re-use bags or by planet friendly ones .

I worked at Iceland Foods part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Regardless of your age all staff (except supervisors and above) are on the same wage

    - If you are interested in the products that Iceland sell you have a 10% discount card

    Cons

    - There isn’t an incentive to train to become a non trade or trade duty manager as you do not get anything extra for doing it.

    - High turnover of staff from cashiers to manager of the store.

    - Staff morale is very low and the environment reminded me more of an infant school rather than a workplace due to petty arguments between staff members.

    - You NEVER leave your shift on time and DO NOT get paid for working overtime, regardless of whether it’s over 30 minutes/1 hour.
