I have been working at Iceland Foods full-time

    Pros

Great family feeling amongst team. Fast paced, usually always something to do to keep you busy. Meeting different people.

    Cons

Shift patterns are at times brutal especially if you’re a highly skilled colleague. Management unwritten rule is you can’t take your unpaid break. Company let’s you down often ie break down of or poor communication, managers moving often which in turn makes a team hard to gel or breaks up an existing cohesive unit, support often not there from above management level.

I have been working at Iceland Foods full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Team spirit at store level is good. Good place to work for a part time assistant that Does not get paid a salary

    Cons

Insufficient funding to complete tasks with the expectation that store management will stay on to complete tasks for free. Not enough wage credit given for Changeovers and stock counts again with the expectation that management will stay on to do it. You get promised time in lieu but with the wage funding as it is it it unrealistic to take a day out of store and get paid for it. Head office constantly make changes which are to the detriment of the store team and add to an already high and unrealistic workload.

I worked at Iceland Foods full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great frozen food, nice family feel to team, discount is nice. Vouchers for Xmas. Great focus on charity. Layout of store is nice. Good home delivery service

    Cons

Unrealistic targets, unrealistic, unachievable expectations due to lack of hours. Poor management especially store managers that have their favourites. Managers don’t have people skills Very physical and demanding, challenging, exhausting no work life balance. Unable to have breaks, pressured by management to work extra without pay using fear management.

I have been working at Iceland Foods full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Business hired 'on personality' so there are a lot of really great people in stores. Progression is available if you want it.

    Cons

Zero work-life balance, working 70+ hours and being paid for only half of them, 'cost to sell' being decreased therefore putting incredible pressure on instore teams.

I have been working at Iceland Foods full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    The team I work with.

    Cons

Work life balance is non existent. Constantly spending hours in store aftwr your shift has finished for free just to keep your head above water. Staff levels are a joke. Don't try to give feedback about the budget because you will just get told to manage your team better. How can you manage your team when all 2 of them are on the till all day while you run around trying to do everything else yourself because you can't afford staff. Internal store feedback mechanism is a waste of time. Trivial things will sometimes get fixed but major issues will go ignored. There is a real us v them culture from senior supervisors and managers towards head office. Constant changes being made to the detriment of the store team and at such short notice. You have to publish your rotas 3 weeks in advance but then they will add in extra task such as additional home delivery slots when you have already done the rota. Tell your family you wont be able to see them anymore because you have to work to plug gaps in the labour model. If you value any sort of social life at all or even a day off once in a while steer well clear of this place. The company only cares about frontline staff. Management are treated like dirt when they are the glue that is holding this broken system together. The working time directive means nothing to them. You have no time to actually manage or analyse sales because your are constantly filling freezers or stacking shelves. My job is essentially the same as when I was frontline except for the extortionate amount of free work I am required to do.
