Pros

I suspect there must be some pros. For example, they pay you, so that's certainly a pro. There are snacks and coffee at your disposal, which is also a nice perk. Unlimited time off? Sure. Certainly a pro. Other startups and tech companies offer similar benefits, but Vericred does so as well, which is a plus. Also, some people are nice. That's also good. There's a dog, which makes the office fun.

Cons

Where do I begin? For one, depending on the leader, the trauma they inflict derives from anywhere between apathy and outright disrespect. Turnover is quite high, for which there appears to be zero consequence from the board. At some point, you cannot simply believe every employee fired is the employee's fault for not delivering. Like, the stats just don't work out in that way. The CEO is also at best impulsive, but it's more likely he's way more shrewd than he lets on, which uncovers a whole lake of insecurity I would rather a professional opine on rather than me. Simply, if you have a keen sense of self and see yourself growing as an individual and know better, don't come here. Go elsewhere. Healthtech is a burgeoning field. Why put up with bad management and an even more anemic business model when you can instead make a difference and are respected for your contributions? Or rather, when you're not quivering in fear whether you're next to get canned or the person next to you will get canned when you're out at lunch. It's a sweatshop. Run. The below positive reviews are bogus, likely written by management to dilute their bad ratings.

We appreciate any time a current or former team member takes the time to comment on their Vericred experience, whether positive or negative. So thank you for doing so. It is true that we had a period of high turn-over. Some of this was due to natural attrition while in other cases to poor hiring decisions on our part. For the latter we take responsibility. However over the last nine months our retention has markedly improved and is running at a rate of less than 10% per annum. And importantly, during this same period there have been no involuntary terminations (firings). As such, we believe that we have made great strides in our hiring practices. With regards to “bogus” reviews management does not post reviews nor ask current employees to do so.

We appreciate the positive feedback on compensation, benefits and office perks. Respect and open communication are both core values for us, so we are sorry to hear that you found both areas problematic. As a management team, we have been working hard to foster an atmosphere of respect and open communication through retros, standups, one-on-one’s, anonymous message boxes and team meetings. We don't claim to be perfect, but we are committed to improving our culture and process every day.

Pros

TLDR - Some good stuff like - Good comp and benefits. It's a startup and healthcare after all! - Smart team, including leadership for all their flaws - Dedicated front-line staff slash us on the ground - Willing to try new things to get something done HOWEVER ...

Cons

- We have to use Glassdoor to voice our concerns because management here does not do a good enough job acting on our concerns - There is a real culture of fear here. It's unfortunate since we all believe in the mission of the organization. - It really does not need to be an authoritarian exercise in feudalism. We took European History in high school and we all saw what revolutions look like. - Management here, while some on the newer side, is the textbook definition of "Can we just get it done please?" minus the please.
