I worked at Imperial College London full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-Great development opportunity with generally good support.
    - Exciting work which you mainly get to set yourself. Good autonomy.
    - You get as much out of it as you put in
    - Enjoyable office environment
    - Get to work with very impressive people on the Trustee Board and in College Leadership
    - Good internal recognition (although not comp!) for achievement

    Cons

    - Students mostly don't understand your job and it can often be a thankless task from the very people you are trying to serve
    - Student politics
    - Fairly high turnover of staff makes it difficult to have stability, although new members of staff have been excellent in role so far.
    - At times have been unsupported by senior management including on major projects. Lack of resources that can be deployed on projects of strategic importance.
    - Pace of change is faster than College, but overall is not as agile as it needs to be. Would recommend flattening management structure.
    - Needs a more entrepreneurial attitude in order to maintain growth in services, although this is improving.

    Advice to Management

    -Focus on financial sustainability
    - Look into performance based pay options
-Develop an "Alumni group" for ex-ICU staff members
-Support the Board of Trustees better to get the most out of them.
