I have been working at InterSystems full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Working with great people. Always challenging

    Cons

Some middle managers need a rocket up them, they’re too risk averse and need to let their people off the lease.

    Advice to Management

You hire great people, trust them to provide outstanding results.

I worked at InterSystems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits - pensions, health insurance + travel insurance very good, but the sign up and administration of them can be arduous

Salary & incentive scheme - although this often benefits those higher up

Colleagues - mostly welcoming and very collaborative

CEO - very nice man, but I don't think he's fully aware of the level of current uncertainty and unhappiness at his UK offices!

    Cons

No sense of hierarchy - no chance of progression or promotion, roles and responsibilities often do not accurately reflect what's on your job description

Outdated working principles - no real gender or ethnic diversity particularly the higher up you go, old fashioned dress code, no flexible working, no work from home unless you're Tech/Product/Sales, based away from Eton, Windsor and Edinburgh, or a director/manager that doesn't listen to HR.

Compassionate, Maternity, Paternity, Sabbatical, Annual leave policies are poor and rigid in comparison to its competitors

Using old technology - not keeping up with market trends

US colleagues - constant interference and micromanagement

HR are not the supportive vehicle that they lead you to believe they are - all lip service, very quick to dismiss colleagues and leave teams stretched

Senior management does not listen to concerns of those on the ground, within offices

Continues to recruit even though there are problems with the product, clients, senior management and the allocation of work and resources. It's unfair to new starters expecting what they were sold by Recruitment but get something completely different, and to existing employees who have to waste time getting lots of new hires up to scratch

    Advice to Management

Review your policies and procedures - bring them in line with working practices in this decade

Don't be so stuck in your ways and repeat mistakes of the past - listen to what ex-colleagues are telling you

Review your HR and IT Support departments - they are not doing you any favours

I have been working at InterSystems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Fantastic technology backed by very knowledge people. Very strong customer focus which allows you to perform your job effectively, and feel like you are making a difference

    Cons

Coming from a Microsoft shop previously, the lack of vast amounts of online knowledge about the products can seem limiting at first, but there is a very active small community which can help

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing. The company has really gone from strength to strength in the years I have been working here

    Pros

A privilege to be part of a very highly motivated and driven bunch of technical people. "Customer Success" centric organization. Always focused on long term goal than short term gains. Very positive culture.

    Cons

Conservative. Slow adoption to some of the changes in the business world.

    Pros

Excellent colleagues, interesting technology, constantly challenged by new problems and projects. Rapidly growing with an emphasis on customer satisfaction that is paramount

    Cons

A very flat organisation, don't joint if you want to climb a management hierarchy. Emphasis on organic growth and little hierarchy means that there can be little opportunity to do other things.

    Advice to Management

continue to encourage openness and free communication. Retain a cooperative collegiate way of working as that way good things can happen

    Cons

    - limited scope for advancing career. Org structure is flat so there is no defined career path to move to the next level

I have been working at InterSystems full-time

    Pros

The rigorous interview process mentioned several times here not only gives the company the confidence it needs to be sure it is hiring the right people - it also gives the interviewee reassurance that they are joining a serious, competent company. As significant emphasis is placed on personality type as part of the interview process, successful interviewees can also be confident that they are likely to be a good personality fit. Almost everyone in the company seems to be good, friendly, hard-working and smart.
As a relatively new member of the team I am still surprised to see so many colleagues across the company with a “can do” attitude – with many even proactively asking “can I help in any way?”. As such, in general , when help is needed, it seems to arrive.
There is a very flat structure and senior management are very approachable.

    Cons

As above everyone is hard-working and takes responsibility – obviously a good thing. As such, however, catching up on work over a weekend for example seldom clears your mailbox as everyone keeps responding!
