I worked at Islington Council full-time

      Pros

      - Generous annual leave, 25 days plus 5 privilege days and bank holidays - 35 hr per week - Employee benefits: Gym, Cyclescheme, Computer scheme Flexibility, pay and work life depends on your manager.

      Cons

Employees not treated fairly in terms of work responsibilities and pay. 2 employees with the same job title can be paid the same salary yet workload can vary widely.

      Advice to Management

Review workload and reward hard working employees who truly gets the work done. Prevent supervising managers who only cascades work down yet gain all the glory and rewards.

      Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Islington Council full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

Flexible working at cost of service provision. We can pretty much do what we want. Virtually no supervision or accountability.

      Cons

Pretends to offer good services but raising money is more important. Discrimination against middle aged straight men. Very clique ridden.

      Advice to Management

Stop selecting minorities for positions and hire accordingly to ability. Provide proper fair service and stop chasing income so much.

I worked at Islington Council full-time for more than 5 years

      Pros

Pleasant team atmosphere. Realistic management, but as with most Social Work teams there is a push for performance indicators such as Visits and PEPs being on time. Caseloads, although hectic seem to be better than most Local Authorities. Goood training and good holidays.

      Cons

Systems for working out of the office could perhaps be improved. Also there could be more opportunities to have interaction throughout the different teams, as they;'re all working to achieve the same goals

I worked at Islington Council for more than 8 years

      Pros

diverse and attempt to promote equal opportunity

      Cons

there was lots of uncertainty surrounding staff positions and senior managers are only after securing their position

      Advice to Management

Because you do lots of pen pushing, does not mean there is equal availability. Talented employees have left or are leaving because of lack of opportunity

I worked at Islington Council full-time for more than 19 years

      Pros

There are lots of good people, and the environment i worked in was generally open, positive, supportive and with reasonable freedom to act.

      Cons

Obviously councils are subject to extreme budge pressure these days, so be prepared to work with that as a constant backdrop.
