    Positive Outlook

I have been working at J D Wetherspoon full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

A fast paced, fun company that can be very hard work. Free food for all staff, employee share options after 18 months service, 28 days holiday and a raft of other benefits. A good employee promise that aims to look after the staff and ensure a decent work-life balance. A wide ranging training scheme and options for Apprenticeships. Good industry pay rates and bonus schemes

    Cons

The employee promise is only as good as the pub manager implementing it. There are good managers and bad managers... Once you have reached either pub manager or kitchen manager, there are few options for further progression, although both positions pay well for the industry.

I have been working at J D Wetherspoon full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good pay. Good social aspects. Most staff well looked after. Always paid on time or earlier.

    Cons

No real incentives to become/be a manager anymore, a lot of same perks as other staff. Very limited progression within company, higher positions like RCM appear to be unstable and short lived. Low profits relying on high volumes makes staffing difficult, means a lot of running short throughout shifts. Very difficult to train and maintain staff on the resources available.

Thanks for your feedback. You’ve got some great experience working for the company so it would be good to understand your thoughts about how we can improve staff stability in your pub. Please have a chat with your Area Manager.
