I have been working at J D Wetherspoon full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good Pay, discounts, bonuses and career progression .

    Cons

Hours are very stingy, you think the company ran at a loss with how stingy they are with the hours. Often means you are understaffed, rushed off your feet and may not get a break, In my opinion if they invented more hours in the pubs (especially smaller ones as they have it most tight) then it would improve staff morale and retention. Also means you do some of your work unpaid as you don’t get time to do it on shift.

    Advice to Management

Invest more hours into pubs, other then that a great company to work for.

    I worked at J D Wetherspoon full-time for more than a year

    Pros

It's easy to get hired with no experience, you can typically get as many or as few shifts as you like, high employee turnover means it's easy to move into management, shift work provides flexibility

    Cons

Poor work culture leads to unhappy and overworked employees, turnover is high, the pay is very low, most managers don't care about, reward or try to develop their teams, shifts are consistently understaffed or staffed with new, inexperienced employees

    Advice to Management

If you want employees to stay, think carefully about how you treat them. Happy workers are productive workers.

    I worked at J D Wetherspoon full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Regular pay rises, excellent bonus schemes (audits, secret shopper calls, beating KPIs, etc), thoughtful and high-quality training for management, staff are well taken care of with break entitlement, appraisals, on and off-shift discounts. Overall excellent career starter with possibilities to expand outside of retail if so desired (auditor, office jobs, etc)

    Cons

Unsociable hours (sometimes negotiable), some 6am starts, some 2-4am finishes, stressful when understaffed, some long shifts, some without a break, customers can be problematic at times.
