I have been working at J D Wetherspoon full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Don’t have to work with the public, can make good working friendships, decent bonus scheme. Free food.

    Cons

Wether-cest. Working for a lobbyist. Can’t call in sick, even when actually sick. To the detriment of my mental health. Long hours. Lack of breaks. Associates don’t care about their jobs.

  9. "It’s filled a gap being a student but often made to feel like it’s a full-time process rather than part-time."

I have been working at J D Wetherspoon part-time for more than a year

    Pros

The pay isn’t too bad. You do meet some good people there, to work with and regulars. 20% discount off shift at any spoons comes in handy, as does the 50% an hour before, after and on shift. It’s ideal for those looking to top up the bank, as a uni student it’s helped.

    Cons

Not somewhere to make a career. Management are two-faced and hypocritical. Staff often don’t turn up but who can blame them. Customers think they run the place. Don’t get paid holiday on time or even correctly most of the time. Long hours/shifts demotivates everyone and then we get hours cut so not everyone gets their expected hours. Staff are often cliquey and a lot of gossip goes around.
