I worked at J Sainsbury part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Every gets on like a big family, plenty of overtime was available and there's lots of holidays. Worked here for 5 years and it really made me a different person, brought me out of my shell and gave me confidence.

    Cons

Throwing food away at the end of a working day, I know it can't be helped sometimes but maybe link up with charities?

I have been working at J Sainsbury part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Collegue benifits
Career progression if you want to shoot yourself by the age of 25
Decent pay if you do a bad job

    Cons

You WILL be aching all over. Your knees especially if you are a customer assistant.
The pay for the job you have to do, well I've worked Customer Assistant and currently bakery assistant and basically, those jobs are NOT paid fairly. Checkouts/customer service is fair because of the OPTION TO SIT DOWN. It infuriates me when people complain about working on the checkouts...you have the option to sit down, how can you complain? Try stacking shelves upon shelves of booze for a 10 hour shift, with each box weighing 10kg. 10kg is not much, no, but do hundreds of them in one shift and with a half hour break, well, you'll agree with me.
Thanks, Mr Sainsbury, enjoy your massive income whilst your employees suffer. Literally suffer. I hate working here, I absolutely hate it. The relentless customers complaining or saying they can't find something when clearly they havnt looked at all.
The atmosphere in there is terrible; EVERYONE hates their job. Despises it.

This is the only honest review on this website.

    Advice to Management

Stop being selfish. Your revenue is in the billions, so do your "valued" employees a favour and pay them better. Seriously, has it not crossed your minds that whilst we do all the hard work and you count your coin, that you could pay is a bit better?

I have been working at J Sainsbury part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Sainsbury's is a great place to work for, for people of all ages. The pay is great and the staff and always generally very friendly and easy to work with. There is always overtime available and they are a great example of a company that values equality.

    Cons

The only downside is they sometime rely on certain staff members to take over when someone is absent or sick. I think they should have enough staff available in order to deal with these situations. Or train up enough staff in the store to cover different areas when need i.e Bakery or Counters staff

    Advice to Management

Train up not only bakery and counters staff to work in those areas just as nearly everyone is till trained. Because this means that if something goes wrong there will be more that just bakery and counters staff available to help out.

    Pros

Staff are friendly, hopefully, fits around you, can change department easily and the management are okay. The look after you when your I'll and have a good back to work program.

    Cons

Crazy hours sometimes. In some departments are stricted of staff and could do with more. Breaks need to be more in the centre of shifts.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the staff more and have a bit of common senses. Make sure we have very thing in stock because if not we can't do our job properly.
