I worked at J Sainsbury part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good pay and hours/ days can be made that's suitable to you

    Cons

Staff were all nice, the manger wasn't. Working at the tills was one of the worst, breaks weren't long enough only 20 min of you did and 8 hour shift and they were very limited

I have been working at J Sainsbury part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

6 weeks holiday for everyone. Part time colleagues earn extra holiday at a rate of 1 extra hour per 8 hours overtime worked. Brilliant! Generous full sick pay entitlement after 2 years service, 3 day waiting applies to those not in the 2 year entitlement before pay is given.

    Cons

No Sunday extra pay, often short staffed therefore stressful, company operates an unwritten “face fits” policy. Many of the management have an “I’ve earned my stripes” attitude and are reluctant to perform jobs under their own role if the business requires it. Store staffing can be unorganised and low level staff are left to take the flack. Management are also more than happy to take advantage of those who are less in the know about workers rights and employment law.

    Advice to Management

‘Working together, trusting each other’ is one of the companies values. Yet it seems that this value isn’t practiced by the people who are oh so happy to preach it.

I worked at J Sainsbury part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Discount card especially when it goes up to 15 or 20%. And you get it now within 3 months of starting

    Cons

Bad management, expect so much can be rude . Not allowed to speak to colleges or customers as should be Work Work Work customer Service is nil , disciplined if you don’t throw the customers shopping at them at under 22 items a minute. Personally would never work for this company again.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate your staff more sometimes a bit of politeness goes a long way . Try praising good work and not always be ready to demean staff especially on shop floor.

I have been working at J Sainsbury (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Flexible hours. Good people.

    Cons

Boring. Lack of growth to progess in the company. Never appreciated for the work you do.

    Advice to Management

There are lots of collegues who supervise who haven't been signed off or encouraged to sign off by mamgers even though they are good at what they do and there for end up supervising for many years without getting paid the wage they should get for supervising. You should recognise this and encourage those who supervise who are not signed off, to get signed off instead of letting them do a job for many years paying them a band 2 when really they should be getting paid a band 3 so you can save money. No encouragement from mangers to progress within the company.
