I have been working at J Sainsbury (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Flexible hours. Good people.

    Cons

Boring. Lack of growth to progess in the company. Never appreciated for the work you do.

    Advice to Management

There are lots of collegues who supervise who haven't been signed off or encouraged to sign off by mamgers even though they are good at what they do and there for end up supervising for many years without getting paid the wage they should get for supervising. You should recognise this and encourage those who supervise who are not signed off, to get signed off instead of letting them do a job for many years paying them a band 2 when really they should be getting paid a band 3 so you can save money. No encouragement from mangers to progress within the company.

I have been working at J Sainsbury as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

my regular friendly customers is about the only thing that kept me going
i suppose 10% discount can be seen as a positive

    Cons

Management give no care about you whatsoever
    Unrealistic expectations of all staff
Staff are never properly rewarded for good things they do unless it is a member of staff who is close to the management team
Sickness and absence procedures are just ridiculous and unfair and management dont actually take into consideration of what you are going through (such as family issues or really bad health conditions)
HR nearly always mess up your pay and are quick to take money when they over pay you even though you've been underpaid for months
short timed a whole hours wage if your just a minute late
    no opportunity whatsoever to progress
    very bad overall
they disciplined an elderly lady for being off of work despite her having a heart attack within work and knowing her situation.

    Advice to Management

just a total clean up, hire people who are actually doing their job and sack people when theyve had continuous amounts of complaints from both staff and customers for poor conduct. Pay more attention to the bigger issues rather than silly things such as absences (unless serious and taking the micky)

I worked at J Sainsbury part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Colleagues are warm and looks out for each other. Regular customers are friendly, and became great friends. They do Christmas parties

    Cons

Not flexible with shifts, don't get recognized for hard work. Managers are overly concerned with their departments budget, and sacrifices the treatment of staff in the process

    Advice to Management

Improve the way you treat staff, increase benefits.

I worked at J Sainsbury (More than a year)

    Pros

    - there were some lovely older loyal colleagues

    Cons

    - rediculous attitude towards illness, people with serious medical conditions were scared and given a warning for missing work. one of these cases someone had been in hospital with a suspected heart attack through stress, to then be given a written warning as it had happened twice. great way to treat your staff
    - BULLYING i was bullied by a male twice my age and size, he would shout at me in front of customers etc, when i brought it to my managers attention - she called him in to see me when i explained i was uncomfortable and scared and did not want to see him. she forced him in. he then had a go at me saying i was making up lies. i was then threatened by my manager who said that it was defacation of character. and then she made a point of saying that he meant a lot to the company and had been there many years etc.
    - i am owed a lot of money through sainsburys, if you count the routine 10 minutes i was forced to stay behind after shift to finish serving customers.
    - IPM - this is wrong - they monitor how fast you scan and you get scolded if you are too slow. the majority of my customers would be elderly therefore i would help them pack or at least go slow enough as not to rush them - sainsburys did not like this kind of decent customer service

    Advice to Management

choose your management more carefully - its important
if there managers a bully then its a bad mix

I have been working at J Sainsbury (Less than a year)

    Pros

I have worked at both Waitrose and Sainsburys. This company is absolutely amazing to work for. If the managers recognised potential in you they'll encourage you and help you get to where you want to be. Such lovely friendly managers with an amazing environment. Great place!! The starting wage here is ALOT better than Waitrose.

    Cons

There aren't many really, maybe unsociable hours?

    Advice to Management

Keep doing the job you're doing, completely love working there!

    Good money.
    OK people.
    Good discounts.

    Cons

    Rubbish hours
Disciplinery actions for being sick you can't help it it's nature.
Say you don't have hours to up the contract after being there for 3 years and seing people be moved here there and every where. I would never work for this company again.

    Advice to Management

More communication between staff. Not very team friendly. Very clicky I found and if u wasn't in the click you wasn't getting no where.
